• Cool

  • What these noobs should do is make an admin aware of a duplicate/repeated thread.

  • These list threads are a great resource - thanks. However, I think that I may have become even more indicisive than I was at the time had I discovered this thread prior to purchasing. As it is, I bought the Cinelli Gazetta (grey) OTP and absolutely love the thing although it doesn't appear on the list. Majority of the parts are okay (miche/ cinelli/ deda). All at £775 from velodromeshop.co.uk.

  • Those Gazzetta frames would be much nicer built up on a classic design rather than just appealing to hipsters.

  • So what's the general consensus on the orbeas dude. If no one stops me I might go ahead and buy one.

  • At £775 it was a steal and I am far too old to be anything remotely hipster. Apart from the white seat its really quite an understated OTP bike.

  • Fuji Track Classic 2011 (£350) vs Specialised Langster 2010 (£375) vs Charge Plug Freestyler 2010 (£300)

    Discuss... :-)

  • Those 3 bikes are all completely different.... what do you want...?

A basic steel track bike, an aluminium commuter with mounts for mudguards bottles and racks, or a heavy charge that will barspin and tail whip?

  • Sorry, should have specified that it is the steel Langster.

I am looking at the value for money/quality angle rather than the riding style/purpose of use angle.

    Cheers.

  • The Plug is the heaviest, and the cheapest.
The Track Classic is good, and at that price, quite a bargian.
The Langster Steel is the prettiest of the three, by far, but the most expensive.

Now YOU make up your mind. ;)

  • Gotta admit, I like the Fuji and lean towards more sporty and focussed machines.

The other two are heavily discounted though (I'm a sucker for a bargain).

Why is the Fuji so cheap without discounting? Is it a good base to build from?

Have also looked at the Bianchi Pista - beautiful but twice the price...why?!

  • i'd go for the langster. it's my favourite otp bike by far...
isn't there a a thread that a guy started where he had tons of problems with his classic track? bent cranks, bent chainring and untrue wheels...

Hmm, the Langster is cool and that Fuji thread sounds worrying - although I did a search and couldn't find it.

  • Try and get a Focale 44 for the same money. The newer stock (all?) have sealed bearing wheels.

If you like the nippy nature of the Fuji Track, you'll probably like the Focale too.

  • I would go for the Langster steel... damn good looking bike and I've had alot of good times with Specialized bikes over the years.

  • Try and get a Focale 44...

The only problem with it is the one-piece stem-handlebar combo. If you crashed and had to change the handlebar, the stem would go into the bin with it. Similarly, if the reach and fit isn't spot on, there's little room for adjustment, as you cant swap the stem out, without the handlebar going also.

  • My workplace has got cyclescheme going so i thought i may get a fixie fs bike on it.
The question is whats considered the better of the "off the shelf" fs bike out there?Be grateful for any comments.

  • There's info on that already. Search for "OTP" using the search box in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

  • have a look at the carefully prepared and very detailed thread about off the peg ( otp ) bikes
    links above !

  • Razzle.

I bought mine in 2006 and it was well worth buying, but I did have to replace the bars, wheels, and the rear sprocket (so far). It still worked out incredibly cheap. Cheap owing to some cheap components on it, plus the usual economies of scale. Oh, and the fact that it's singlespeed/fixed. :)

  • Boardman Track for 2011: http://www.boardmanbikes.com/road/track_comp.html

Looks track-specific (no brakes), and seems pretty light. No price, and, tbh, not sure if I'm a fan of the looks.

Nonetheless, I've been happy with my Comp S/C as a commuter, so will definitely be investigating this one if and when more details emerge.

  • I like that tk comp but not sure how long it would stay that white for!
