It was doing it just with the velox too, so double rim tape not the cause. Yes Dp18, tried various tyres too. I've fluctuated between rage and almost sobbing. I think I'm just going to give up and get a new wheel, just seems like such a waste when it's in good nick.

• #1003
Ha! I can vaguely justify a new wheel, new bike....
-
• #1004
I see nothing wrong with your logic

Could it be something poking out of the tyre, like a bit of the wire bead/nail/thorn etc? Only say that as the tyre hasn't been mentioned, the places the puncture happens is spread over a few inches which would rule out one spot on the wheel (and assuming you may be lining up the print on the tyre to the valve) and that the inner tube will be changing shape when inflated - so may appear spoke side but could actually be touching the tyre when full or air?

Anyone use these big tins of patch glue? I just found my brand new, unopened tube of Lezyne glue has somehow split, even though it's stored in a small plastic patch kit box and I have no glue. Wonder if it's better idea to buy a few more little tubes or one of these tins for home use?
Does the glue stay active ok?Also, what's the difference between their "vulcanising solution" and their "special cement"?
-
• #1007
"Heavy duty blue cement is stronger than standard vulcanising cement and designed for more demanding applications."
-
• #1008
You tried Continental?
-
• #1009
Continental breakfast, yeah.
Patch glue! Focus!

• #1010
Yup, I've got a tin of the vulcanising stuff: had it for over a year and used it just the other day.
I keep the brush in the tin, as I CBA to clean it and don't want it drying out.
Rema do patches for tractors and stuff like that, which would be where the "special" stuff is used.

I have no glue.
Drue, drue. :)

Nah, DJ is all about the tubeless these days.
Pretty sure the new digs came with "people" for chores anyway.

My rear Rando just blew off the rim tearing the bead off as it went.
Pretty sure the tube wasn't pinched or anything, tyre has been mounted for months, pumped it up about a week ago and been riding on it every other day since an just blew while it was sitting doing nothing at work.
Anyone else had problems with Randos blowing off? Can't decide whether to replace the tyre with another Rando or get something different. If I have a suitable width of tyre at home I'll probably just fit that.
-
• #1016
I'm pretty sure with their popularity we'd have heard more about the same kind of thing happening. Check the rim for defects. Examine the tyre for evidence of an older tear or similar?
-
• #1017
Maybe the reflective tape you pulled off the bead was structural!!
-
• #1018
Yeah that's kinda what I thought.
Can't see much wrong with the tyre other than the bead missing on the bit that blew.
Oh well, at least I can replace with the same tyre and not worry about it being a common occurrence.

often when I fit a new tube back in the tyre, it ends up with a lumpy bit around the valve hole. it doesn't really disturb the ride too much but it gets on my nerves. what am I doing wrong?
-
• #1020
Before inflating, push the valve up into the tyre a bit. Tyre should seat properly then.
-
• #1021
perfect. I was pushing it away from the tyre, making it harder and harder with every turn. thank u v much

• #1022
No problem, I'm here to
mockhelp. ;) -

This is probably already discussed before but I can't find it so; do you guys inflate your punctured inner tube a bit before applying a patch? I normally apply it without air but with my 40c tyres I get the feeling the patch has to strech too much... Thanks!
-
• #1024
I would inflate it to find the puncture, then I tend to mark it with an X using a pen or something. The actually patching is generally done with no air in the tube.
-
• #1025
Cheers! I just patched a inner tube today and the patch came off again after some riding. Thought it maybe was because I put the patch on without air in the tube and it streched too much when it got inflated.
Do what @ChainBreaker does, buy a new bike.
