  • I was looking for brakes, and thought those looked quite nice, and then I saw the price, and decided that they weren't really for the likes of me.

I hope you enjoy them dasn.

  • I want them.

  • ^and that's just for the scrap metal value, right? ;)

  • Surely for that money you could have got the perfectly functioning EE's?

  • Andy, I think if you see them in the metal you'll change your mind, they are beautifully made, really watch like level of precision to the engineering.

They are brakes that put function first, and by dint of efficiency of design and material choice are also light, rather than setting being really light as the design priority, with stopping power in second place.

  • Exactly why I chose them Dammit. It's not just the weight, a serious amount of engineering has gone into the thought behind them and that is a turn on. The weight is just an extra bonus.

  • If you want performance Dura Ace is still the go to standard.

  • Well, 203mm discs would be better, I think?

Yes, but they won't fit your road bike. I considered both EE and M5 for my weight weenie bike, and eventually rejected both as too ugly, although all reports suggest that they are probably the top two among WW brakes for stopping.

Anyway, it's all about aero for brakes these days, so at some point this year I'll be shelling out for one of these:

  • Those look cool, although a little like the aliens in the Fifth Element.

I don't have, and don't intend on changing to, Dura Ace right now, and without the 7900 lever I would not want to run the brakes.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so ner.

Their tests say they're about the same aerodynamically as a centre-pull. I'm guessing they work much better though. $200 USD for a front only. $375 for both.

How much distance will they get me in 24hr? :)

"the egg brake was shown to save 3 watts of power over their test course. By Thomas’ calculations, the rule of thumb is that a reduction of 10 watts equates to 1 second per kilometer of time savings. If the Egg Brake saves 3 watts of power, this means that over a flat 40KM course, the brakes will save 12 seconds. And over an Ironman distance of 112 miles, that savings goes to 54 seconds."

A bit less than a mile.

Tririg Omega should be available soon, will be interesting to see if it can get close to the 20 year old Hooker.

  • Not sure.. I've seen how fast 20yo hookers can run..

  • So the midget thing is not so much a preference as a necessity imposed on you by your inability to catch anybody with normal length legs?

  • Yipee wormery now in action!

  • New pads;

much, much, much better, if you're still running original pads on your bike, you'll be a fool not to change it.

  • where did you get them from ed?

  • should have got the swissstop.

  • they were twice the price at around £20-23, whether the kool-stop were £8-9.

give me a good reason to why the swissstop costing twice as much will be twice as good as the kool stop salmon, and I'll get them.

  • cos they're swissstop.
    And they have 2 s'

  • Good point, koolstop only have one, give me a minutes while I ripped the koolstop salmon out with my bare teeth...

  • ok

  • cos they're swissstop.
    And they have 4 s'

    ftfy

  • Having used Swiss Stop and Kool Stop, I'd go for Swiss Stop every time as a) the brake modulation seems better and b) they last longer.
