  • £330 and less than 6 months old. Whoops.

  • The reference to unconsciousness led me to believe you tried to straighten your mudguard post Wests, if you just dropped it then meh.

No bikes were harmed in the destruction of this phone.

The same cannot be said for brain cells.

  • ha, did mine in two weeks

  • 6 months old=obsolete.

Re braincells I refer you to the Cheers theory.

  • That is true. Mine is proper fucked though. Can't use it. Also snapped the memory card holder out of the internals!

  • How many braincells had you destroyed that evening?

  • gutted

Re braincells I refer you to the Cheers theory.

Yeah, thing was I bought it outright knowing I was going to upgrade quite soon. I still don't like destroying shit that works. Mal was gonna have it and we could nerd up together and smack iPhone users in the face and stuff... it was gonna be great..

I've been using that theory for many years now. Gold.

  • How many braincells had you destroyed that evening?

I started at lunchtime and don't remember getting home.
There were mates and booze and strippers and for some reason I was using a cash machine in Hackney and I got out of a cab somewhere and I think I stopped vomiting around lunchtime today. Fun times.

Of course, for insurance purposes, I was stone cold sober.

  • (...) you tried to straighten your mudguard post Wests(...)

Is it how you guys call the unfortunate fall from the bike behind my back? Some kind of euphemism or it's a common occurrence these days?

  • Is it the glass that is just broken or is it the whole 3 layered screen, it is a touch screen isn't it? If you want I can get my mate to take a look at it as it may be able to replace the screen.

  • The touchscreen still responds (kinda) but touching 8 for example activates 7. So the smash has fucked up the capacitive doova-wacky. Does your mate do Samsung bits? That'd be cool if I could get it fixed. I don't hold out much hope for mobile repairs generally though.

The capacitive do da is usually in between the glass and the screen not sure if he has done a Samsung but he has worked on Nokias and done about 15 screen replacements on IPhones.

  • My girlfriend got given a super fancy phone by Nokia for fee a while back for some strange sponserhsip thinhg, so she decided to sell it, put it on ebay, and a guy bought it, was done by paypal, the money (about 300 quid) was in her paypal account, so she said obviusoly lets give him the phone, so he came and picked it up from where I work, seemed like a nice kid, said it was for his girlfriend for valentines, I have to admit he was young (300 quid phone!! 17 Year Old) but seemed nice etc.... Anyway that evening somehow the cash had gone from her account and his records deleted.... got the Police involved but nothing, told us it happens all the time..... that money was going to pay for a nice holiday, but leason learnt.... sorry its late and my spelling is bad!

  • Could they not just claim it from the card provider?

Meh, anyway thing to remember is not to buy flashy tech off of eBay unless you're sure it's a genuine seller

As a buyer you should get your money - or at least some of it - back if the user has emptied their account, not sure about shut it down though.
I know you'll get some of it back because my girlfriends paypal account got hacked and used along with fake auctions on ebay to get money from people for goods that were never sent.
The fraudulent users linked a bank account (opened with a false name and emptied and closed before my girlfriend found out anything had even happened) to her paypal account so that when buyers sent money it could be withdrawn to it.
When the buyers didn't receive their goods they put in a complaint to paypal who refunded them and took the money out of my girlfriends account. Of course there was no money in her account because she rarely used it and the fraudsters had already made off with the money they made so her account balance went into the negative. At one point it got to about -£800 which paypal kept sending emails about, threatening to take legal action and use debt recoverers (ie bailiffs) to get the money they said she owed despite the fact that it had actually been paypal that had alerted her to the activity in her account(the fraudulent users had altered her account so that no emails about transactions into or out of her paypal account got delivered to her).
Basically it took several months of dealing with trading standards, financial ombudsmen and police to get paypal to accept that the negative balance was not my girlfriends fault and restore it to zero.
I went from being a bit of an Ebay addict that made probably 10-15 transactions in and out of my paypal account every week to having no faith in paypal's "safer way to pay" and in the end i closed my account because i wasn't willing to take the risk with them.
They operate from outwith the EU so pretty much noone in this country has any authority over them, they can do what they want and customer service clearly isn't high on their priorities. It's just a shame that using ebay really depends upon you having a paypal account these days.

  • Son of a bitch!!!!!
    Paypal is such a fucker.
So because I'm out of the country, they block my account until I transfer money into it.
can someone help me out? I have some Ebay items to pay for.

  • Yes, they do block accounts when out of country. I had to wait 3 weeks for a payment a few weeks ago. The bloke was using a lame excuse about some ash cloud or something stopping him getting back into the country, huh.

  • How much dosh henners?

  • doesn't matter now, I'm going to be home on monday and told the people, so paypal will work fine!
see you guys at drinks on Monday!

    thanks Joe, you're a star.

  • Hi all,

If I purchase an item and pay via paypal and there is a problem, does the buyer protection thing still apply?

The item is not purchased through Ebay
The item is not purchased through any other website.

Had a google and cant really find anything for non-ebay transactions.

    Thanks!

The policies applicable to you depend upon your country of residence. Please ensure you are reviewing the policy applicable to you.
How am I protected if I have a problem with a purchase?

PayPal has two programs to help protect you in different situations (details as set out below):

    • PayPal Buyer Protection
    • PayPal Buyer Complaint Policy

What types of problems are covered?

PayPal's programs help you if you encounter either of these problems:

    • You did not receive the item you paid with PayPal for – “Item Not Received” (“INR”)

    • You received an item you paid with PayPal for, but it is “Significantly Not as Described” (“SNAD”) (further information on what is SNAD, is set out below)

If your problem is a transaction that you did not authorise, please report the unauthorised transaction through the PayPal Security Center at https://www.paypal.com/security.

                                                                  PayPal Buyer Protection

    • What are the eligibility requirements for PayPal Buyer Protection?

You must meet all of these requirements to be eligible for a payment under PayPal Buyer Protection:

    • In the case of INR, you must have used your PayPal account to purchase an eligible item. In the case of SNAD, you must have used your PayPal account to purchase an eligible item from an eligible eBay website. For more details on how you would know if you are purchasing an eligible item or if you are purchasing from an eligible eBay site, please see section (b) below.

    • Pay for the full amount of the item with one payment. Items purchased with multiple payments – like a deposit followed by a final payment – are not eligible.

    • Send the payment to the seller through:

    • The eBay "Pay Now" button or the eBay invoice;

    • The "Send Money" tab on your PayPal account overview page by selecting "Pay for eBay Items" and entering your eBay User ID and the eBay item number; or

    • In the case of INR only, for purchases made off eBay: the “Send Money” tab on the PayPal website by clicking the “Purchase” tab, or the seller’s PayPal checkout flow.

    • Open a Dispute within 45 days of the date you sent the payment – then follow the online dispute resolution process described below under “Dispute Resolution”.

    • Keep your PayPal account in good standing.

    • **How do I know if I'm purchasing an eligible item or if I am purchasing from an eligible eBay website?

** PayPal Buyer Protection only applies to payments for certain tangible, physical goods that can be shipped. Payments for the following are **not eligible** for re-imbursement under PayPal Buyer Protection:

    • Any item that is prohibited under the PayPal Acceptable Use Policy

    • Intangibles

    • Services

    • Custom made items

    • Airline flight tickets

    • eBay classified advertisements

    • Licenses and other access to digital content

    • Vehicles

    • Real estate

Eligible eBay websites are eBay websites where PayPal has been integrated as a payment option. Look for either the PayPal Buyer Protection message or an eBay Buyer Protection message in the eBay listing. If you see this message, and you meet the other eligibility requirements, then your purchase is eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection. You can also view this message in the listing after you complete your purchase by logging into your eBay account, going to "my eBay" and looking at the listing. If the listing does not include the buyer protection message, then it is not eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection.

The buyer protection message will vary based on the eBay website. Here are some examples of the PayPal Buyer Protection message. This is not the full extent of PayPal's coverage. Please check your item description before making your purchase.

  • Ok, so this reads to me as:

INR - Item not received is covered by Buyer Protection for non-Ebay transactions
** SNAD - Significantly not as described** is covered by Buyer Protection for Ebay transactions only.

So what if I buy a bike, and am sent a brick?

  • Either way you'll never ride it.

  • Well, I guess not if a fucking brick turns up, Wilbur.

  • Oh, thats what you meant...

So yeah, anyone know things about paypal then?
