I must have missed the bit where he questioned their right to do it. Oh, he didn't.

Oh cos semantics are so important. The point is that you are disapproving like a dull high school clique. Good job.
Ps. Hoops, that looks ace.

The above should read, appears like your are disapproving....
I don't really give a shit.
I can understand how having a mate draw an idea would be sensible, especially if you can't elocute your design perfectly. -

LOL Wut? It's a bit like asking an artist to paint an exact reproduction of someone else's work for a mural on your wall. You can ask someone to do it for you, it is even ethical to do so in many cases, but what artist is going to want to do it for you?
Best,

Some people do it and are very happy with it, more power to them. Some people also still get tribal tattoos. I just don't understand it.

as someone who's got a motley collection of tattoos from artists whose work i like (and don't necessarily fit well with each other), i'm more of the school of thought that i will go to an artist to draw up a design in their style, rather than (like sumo said) treat them as a bit of a vending machine to just smash out exactly what i want based on a design i already have. i'm not against it, it just doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me because it's not really the reason i get tattooed.
@owl those designs are lovely and if your friend is happy to build up their confidence using 3rl or 1rl needles (super fine) they could transpose really well and keep the more delicate notes. sarah carter (nee schor) is a fine art graduate and has a background in illustration, and her work's great if you're into greyscale though her portrait style is quite specific. a couple of examples:
my friend alex is also an illustrator by trade and started tattooing a couple of years ago but i can't find any pictures - both my housemate and i have been tattooed by him and it's a totally different approach as illustrators have such different technique (read: lighter touch) than most new school/heavy linework tattoo artists! anyway - my advice is, if your friend wants to do it they should go for it

also my friend's sleeve by scott move is coming along nicely (jelly):
and in lieu of paying some ballsack hipster tax and ending up forking out £200/ph for maxime i'll probably go to someone like thomas bates / otto d'ambra / alice of the dead... just looking for some fine black linework really:

none of those pictures work. Copy the URL from web.stagram.com rather than instagram.com

I was meant to get something done at Norwich body art festival at the weekend but it didnt happen.. motown 'M' logo on my upper arm. BUT, i saw a few artists there i definitely hadnt given enough time in the past.
I hadn't even realised Thomas Bates is based part time at a studio in Norwich (my home town) too! Strangely the studio doesnt have the best rep, but I now really want something done by him. Big big fan of the sharp line work/etching kind of style he does so spot on. -

Almost finished in my sleeves now. One maybe two more sessions to go.
Trying to find the right artist for my side which needs finishing. Been putting it off as really don't want to back under the needle on my ribs.
However will have To man up. I think I've narrowed it down to Mimissikuite at Sangbleu

(This is pretty much exactly what I'm after but to frame some symbols on my side leaving them as negative space.)or maybe Delphine Noiztoy.
Basically black grey and shade. Baroque floral like the stuff you get in mouldings and picture frames etc.

Super inspiring recommendations there. Exactly the kind of style I'm thinking about. Also good advice on how to approach these people as well.

Enzo that works there, is excellent, and has done me some really bizarre work...

Enzo is a real nice guy and super talented. Such a versatile artist, really like this ^^^ and his japanese stuff.
Because it's their right to get a tattoo anyway they want.
Who gives a shit?
It's not the way you'd do it, it's not the way I'd do it, but it's not yours or my skin.
