  • Nobody posted that link yet as far as I can see. Only Self's obscure verbosity can shed light on the subject (£21m profit on £400m revenue seems a bit rubbish)

  • It's all about the turnover...

  • I like the Ritzy but don't go that often since my membership expired. I hate to say it but I can see both points of view - if the costs go up the cuts have to be made. Bit shitty but they are running a business
Good job I'm not on Urban75 or the pitchforks and flaming torches would be out by now

  • It's an interesting one, that - you write your business plan based on your cost forecasts, and in this case the management are trying to stick to their original forecast.

However, if they'd made the decision to pay people a reasonable wage in the first place, they'd not have this issue - and the staff might have been happier and more productive if they didn't need to forage in bins on the way home from a shift.

The current management had the opportunity to turn this whole thing into a massive positive- handled well they could have given in gracefully to the request for the living wage and then generated a lot of positive press.

However, now they simply look vindictive, and as the cinema is part of the largest cinema chain in Europe it's not as if the Ritzy is going to go bust - unless having to pay an additional couple of quid an hour is enough to destroy the profits for the entire Enterprise.

  • @PQR during the time the ritzy staff have been getting this raw deal the picturehouse chain has grown from 3 venues to 10. I'm sure you can see how badly they are doing as a buisness, it just wouldn't be viable to give a toss about the staff at the same time as rapid expansion.

  • However, if they'd made the decision to pay people a reasonable wage in the first place, they'd not have this issue - and the staff might have been happier and more productive if they didn't need to forage in bins on the way home from a shift.

Fuckin' A, I find it's pretty hard to produce a smile when I know I earn 1/3rd of what the other staff get despite working similar hours.

  • We need to get quotes to have our bathroom extractor fan replaced and also our fence repaired/replaced. Any recommendations? Ta!

  • So the Queens Head is changing hands, eh?
    /runs away/

  • We got lucky with a very good sparks that replaced our bathroom extractor fan and has since done a few other jobs around the place for us. Top guy and Brixton based.

  • Thanks for this, will give him a go.

  • Can anyone recommend a good NHS dentist in Brixton/Herne Hill?

Just tried to call my old one in Pimlico and the phone has been disconnected...

On Stockwell Road opposite the Academy. Generally pretty sound as dentists go. Nathan Chaudhry, solid dentist.

  • Looks great, thanks!

  • i have been there too. It was good. Or at least uneventful. which is good for a dentist imo

  • Booked in for tomorrow... How refreshing, it was always a two week + wait for an appointment at my other place... x

And lol ^, such a great scene... Might have to watch some Seinfeld tonight...

  • woah! it's the guy from the walking dead as the dentist.

    /bass slaps.

  • We use the one opposite Stockwell tube just in case of a plan b.

On a similar subject are there any decent Doctors surgeries in the same area.

It's been 3 years so I should really register

  • Had my appointment this arvo, happy to say it was uneventful...

I'm with Hetherington Group Practice just off Acre Lane, no complaints from me... Not too far from you...

  • I'm off to a gig at the Academy tonight. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to eat first? Not too concerned about the type of food. Cheers

  • Lols.

About a hundred good restaurants in Brixton these days. If you can get down early, just go into the market and take your pick.

Or you could go Portuguese on Stockwell Rd. Cantinho De Porto gets a good forum vote.

Nandos, Wahaca and Brindisa from a chain perspective.

Asmara Eritrean is a favourite of mine, on coldharbour lane. Cocktails and tapas next door at 384, but that needs booking probably.

  • BTW, if your are getting the tube, there are crazy rush hour queues at the station currently due to escalator work. Worth getting off at Stockwell perhaps.
