  • Colne was grim, slightly damp circuit made it pretty hairy and i just can't corner like the big boys. Got dropped pretty quickly and then lapped shortly after. Did spend half a lap trying to stick to Dean Downing's wheel which was quite exciting.

Racing another E/1/2 at Smithfields in the Lakes this weekend, fairly confident i can pick up some more points.

  • upsidedown- were you @ mallory tonight?

  • Nah, I was graduating but plenty of my club were. How'd it go?

  • Not well. Yesterday had taken its toll.
I really need to work on fitness and top-end power and come back in a month. But there really isn't that luxury. Anyways... Onwards.
Yeah there were a lot of Leicester Forest out.

Ps. Congratulations, but shouldn't you be having a 3am curry somewhere in Leicester?

  • Having a cigar and a scotch in the back garden and probably ruining the rest of my season. Cheers.

  • Purchased new crabon wheelz, with tubs. Punctured approx half way into a race. Aggrieved.

  • LOLZ.

What tubs? Did you check them for flints and what if they were 2nd hand?

  • Well that was warm.

  • Yes econd hand, they are vittoria slicks, prob not the best puncture resistance. Did clean and check them over before racing though. Have now pitstopped them, but still a bit worried about racing on them this weekend. Should i just bite the bullet and buy a new set of Tubs?

  • Which ones though? I don't race vittoria but have friends using the evo cx happily.

    I use sprinters, or competitions.

  • These

should have the same puncture protection as the CX. Think it was just bad luck tbh. But obviously now a bit wary.

  • So far, 2 races on Tubs, One puncture, One Crash. Great.

Racing in a 2/3/4 on Sunday which should hopefully go ok. Then a crit, with cobbles, in lancaster on wednesday. Which i suspect will kill me.

  • Tuesday's the next one for me.
Would like to place in it.

  • Managed a 7th yesterday for another 10 BC points. Considering i have managed to put on about 5kg and had been on the pop friday and saturday, I was pretty pleased!

  • Does Gold BC license cover accidental damage to bike (and me)?

  • It doesn't cover your bike. I think you are covered for things like an overnight stay in hospital, serious injury and death but best to check with BC.

  • What sort of insurance will cover bike? My contents insurance provider covers bike under accidental damage and even if they are outside the house (locked) but they have especially mentioned NOT FOR RACING.

  • Broken bikes and wheels is part of racing.
You just have to deal with it.

  • learn how to fix carbon fibre. ...Thats what i did.

  • I'm the wrong person to ask, because I think most insurance policies are fraudulent. In over 20 years of racing, I've never damaged a bike to the point where it needs replacing, but the old maxim of only racing what you can afford to replace is a good one.

I think some companies offer policies that cover racing, but the risk is perceived to be high so the premiums reflect this.

  • I agree and fair enough; was just checking .. so not worth going for insurance in which case might just go for basic BC membership.

  • I know it sounds slightly incredible but Mark & Spencer home insurance covered bikes damaged during racing. It may still do. Check the Ts & Cs.

  • They've cut down their bike coverage a lot this year in general; I was with them year before now with Hiscox but will check ..

  • What sort of insurance will cover bike? My contents insurance provider covers bike under accidental damage and even if they are outside the house (locked) but they have especially mentioned NOT FOR RACING.

ETA cycle insurance covers racing of all sorts (including crashes of your own making), except if you abandon it in a non-manned area during a triathlon, iirc!

Works out ~10% of the bike value per year though.

  • Of course. I forgot about ETA. They're a good company.

I was with them for a few years. Pricy for one bike but if you have a few it starts looking more reasonable. In the end I got the grump, stopped splashing cash on expensive kit and decided...

I think most insurance policies are fraudulent.

    :-/
