Or a Bianchi Pista - which he's considering.
Sidney - the Bianchi Pista is only drilled for a front brake. I've got one and it's not bad for the price. I bought it because it's shiny and it cost £400 so should it get nicked then I won't be hugely upset (I reserve the right to change my mind on this should that day come to pass).

You read my mind! I was thinking earlier I'd never seen a geordi accent transcribed onto paper so well... I could almost hear him speaking. What really bugs me are written gangsta accents... e.g. "true dat", "nuthin", "dis rocks, dawg", etc.

i'm also looking into OTP and have contemplated a self build.
although my patience for a self build may be lacking.the bikes i've considered and are:
SE Lager - £335 but has a BMX bb and currently none available in my size.
Charge Plug - £320 (i can get a discount on this one) but smallest is 56cm (which just looks too big for a 5ft 6in me)
Specialized Langster - £320 (i can get a discount on this one too) - wanted a steel bike but still weighing this one up. Not sure about the "London" look but it *might *grow on me.
Giant Bowery - £270 (i can get another discount on this one too) - heard it's heavy for an alloy framed bike and a lot of the parts look a bit gash.
Fuji Track - £315ish - haven't read a bad word about these bikes but will need to factor in some brakes.decisions eh? anyway, if you're doing it through the cycle2work scheme its not really going to cost you £400 so be happy knowing if you make a mistake - you can rectify it the following year :)
Found this review which might help your decision.

Sidney, ignore these lazy southerners. Shame on you guys for giving him stick for writing more than 4 lines in a post! :)
And also, he's hardly writing in a geordie accent at all! :)
Given the choice i'd go with the steamroller. They're pretty much invincible. And very very flexible, in terms of ways you can kit them out. There's enough space for big fat tyres and mudguards, but they still look lovely with skinny track wheels on em.

Well you've got me there. In fact, instead of a mother, i was raised by recordings of female BBC news broadcasters.

want the best, get the Surly, best thing about Surly, is that it'll feel like it's the last bike you'll ever own.
Having bought the Steamroller a couple of weeks back, that is totally the way I feel. The biggest thing for me was not moving from gears to gear, but riding a steel bike and the buttery, yummy ride that I never want to stop. But... if I was to buy another bike - and we'd all like to - it would now be a steel road bike/racer
