  • I was running 50/16 on Sunday and felt a shade undergeared at times. I replaced the 16 tooth rear with a 15 last night.

right, now I'll take the shitty miche 16 tooth and cog carrier thing off, and replace it with the 15t cog I just took off because I thought 50/16 would be better.

at least I know what the general consensus is! the hire bikes are random chance, mine felt very undergeared, but the one I had saturday felt ok (ish)

  • Claus, I would say you were definitely on too low a gear! I was running 49/15 on Saturday which with my setup was just under 86. 50/15 would give you a nice 87.5.
I feel that if it was not windy and was very calm I could benefit from an even higher gear. Though changing from 15 to 14 would give me 92 which may be too high.

I intend to start going on Wednesday nights from now on and see how I get on.
you're strong enough to go to 14, especially for an indoor non-windy track

  • first i thought, don't tell him that dale!

then I thought, maybe it's reverse psycology and you're trying to overgear him and make him suffer

  • 21st it is, I'll make some calls...

  • 44 voters, isn't that the same number of riders who signed up on the 29th?

  • We had 45 last time, I'm sure we'll get a few more this time... I'll be using top secret, state-of-the-art hype systems to get more forum bods down for the day, all very hush-hush atm...

    A promise of free beer?

  • I like your thinking... ;)

  • perhaps this time we should have a race category for the ...ahem...under-geared amongst us?

it does get a little frustrating doing a whole day of racing knowing full well you don't have a chance in hell of getting a place....know what i mean?

would be nice for the duffers amongst us to taste the scent of victory from somewhere other than Hillbilly's armpits

  • I like the taste of hillbilly's armpits...

  • You could train for it. Just a thought. ;)

  • Yeah, racist...

  • HTFU!! :p

we'll have some team pursuit races and anyway, you do have a chance, it depends who you draw in the sprints and keirin!
I still think it's fun, ok so I don't have a chance in hell of a podium, but I don't want to handicap those who do, just work harder to get nearer to them.

you're not going to win anyway, you can't expect everything on a plate just because you can afford a condor and some rapha gear, you do actually have to ride a bit.

it's not the winning, it's the taking part.

But if winning is important to you, then training is saturday mornings from 1030.

    I heart RPM... ;)

  • hehe

  • My mistake, i just wondered why all other sporting events have different ability classes competing seperately.

maybe the olympics should feature no hopers as well, eh. the 100 metres would be much more fun if it featured a couple of over-50s from scunthorpe

  • just buy a titanium bike, you can win everything whilst you sit at home sucking your thumb.

  • i think you should just move to the north and have done with it, to be honest. you're just not cut out to be a southerner, really. too dour, too embittered.
you'd be at home up there, pissing on bonfires with your gruff, homespun, wisdom.

  • lfgss first married couple?

  • i'd have to wait for him to divorce Mr Smith

I would be good at being an old, withered, taciturn, gruff roadie..

grovelling over the yorkshire dales on an ancient, heavy ten speed, wearing a threadbare cap, shop jersey (of a long closed outlet) and tutting at the carbon bling racers that speed past me.

But, it's too hilly up there, and I'll always be a southerner to them.

  • no really, i think you should go for it, you'd feel much more at home.

  • I think you should move to Australia

  • Fuck off.. I wanna go back one day!
