why does everyone insist on calling it "tesco's"? it's not as if there was some dude named "tesco" who founded it.

The first rule about track bikes is they must be stiff. The second rule about track bikes is they must be stiff. You get the idea. Track racing being the niche sport it is means it's largely ignored by many of the big manufacturers, but last year Trek stepped onto the boards, so to say...
The T1 is made from Trek's own Alpha SL aluminium, and the top and down tubes are hydroformed - fatter at the head tube, a distinct 'hump' on the down tube - all contributing towards a stiff frame, helped further by fat seat and chain stays.
Propping the front end up are a pair of carbon forks, and handling the rotational duties are a pair of Bontrager Select Track wheels, with just 20 spokes apiece and wrapped with Bontrager triple compound tyres. A Bontrager Race crankset spins on outboard bearings, with a 49t ring. And we were delighted to find a Shimano Dura Ace sprocket, showing no signs of skimping.
Finishing kit is all from the Bontrager department, and is all nice kit. We're not sure about ergo bars on a track bike, but we're willing to try them out. And the saddle might have to be swapped for a more svelte item though.IMO

ok i will start again, regardless of the shop, i really like the look of the trek t1, experienced riders im calling on your knowledge.
Are they any good to ride? -
• #11
It would help to know what sort of thing you are looking for, where you ride, how often you ride, what your circumstances are. I don't know anything about that bike, but if we know more about you it would help...

thank you Shinscar.

It looks a good bike, but some of the more elitist on here will prefer if you bought something less off-the-peg, or at least, more exclusive ,than from a mass market producer. Hence the sneering. I can't sneer, as my bike is a cheapie and is mass produced.
Mind you, the Willier is the same price. What was your criteria in search for a bike? You might get some advice on other choices your might want to consider.......
Clefty beat me to the "tell us what you want it for" answer.

Do you have this written in a lot of different ways... so you can copy and paste it in to various noob threads?

rather than go from a langster to another OTP, why not wait and get (or build) something a little more refined?
and that's not a snobbish comment, more just advice.

yeah i suppose, looking good is nine tenths of the hipster code.

Those cranks are terrible.
I had a pair - fine when I was singlespeed but when I went fixed the left crank arm worked loose. Totally screwed the splines on spindle.
Square taper has been around for so long for a reason. It's good.
Edit: On the plus side, it's got a good saddle. Well, I find it comfy anyway. Your mileage will vary.

i used to ride a holdsworth track frame with itm carbons and ergo bars, i really want to move with the technology and engineering advances, steel is overrated.
-
• #24
why does everyone insist on calling it "tesco's"? it's not as if there was some dude named "tesco" who founded it.
The "dude" in question was Jack Cohen, who added TES to the "CO" from his own surname, so there kind of was a dude called Tesco.

yeah i used to ride a lotus and took on the hour record.
everything is overrated, including the word 'overrated' and 'technological advances', not to mention 'carbon' and 'itm' and 'ergo bars'.
trek t1 aluminium yeah blah blah whatever...
im thinking of buying ?
open to scrutiny.
