One of the key reasons for reinstalling was just having one clean install. I had backed everything up after all. Fuck!
-
• #8831
was it all backed up on to the external hard-drive? :S
Check yo drives befo' yo' wreck yo' drives.

Yes, it's the same size as my actual hard drive which threw me. Can't work out how to format the external HD now, doesn't show up when I use my windows install and I can't format it with an old windows disk because its USB.
Christ almighty!

Praise the lord, finally found one that can handle it. Might be OK!

I only have a laptop with windows on it because of work. I haven't bothered dual booting my PC because Ubuntu fits my personal needs. Also as far as I know it's safe from any viruses.

Home Delivery Network Ltd.
Fail on all counts. Home - nah...what they do is drive up to your house, and drop a card and leg it back to the van, meaning you go to their depot. Delivery - see above. Network - that would suggest some level of collective awareness and team working, a centralised management service that knows the wherabouts of the consigments under it's charge...
Nah. I go to the depot, to be told my parcel is in a cage about to be shipped back to the sender, because I didn't pick it up in time - I explain the reason that I did not pick it up is that the card said I couldn't until after Christmas and New Year, based on this being their 'busy period'
Tried to re-arrange delivery via website, it didn't recognise the despatch reference number - I called up to re-arrange delivery, didn't take reference number - FINALLY I got through their ridiculously convoluted call system (which offered me seemingly every date until the end of time for re-delivery) before I got the chance to specify PICK UP FROM DEPOT!!
I dutifully arrived at depot on Tuesday eve this week to be told that my parcel was in a cage awaiting return - they took my card (with reference number), took my mobile number and said they would call me the next day.
They didn't call.
I now check the original email I received from Dolphin Music with the consigment reference number, check this online to find that my parcel has been sent back.
I've just emailed Dolphin Music thus:
*Hi
Reference this parcel 8H44D9423931A - because HDNL are completely and utterly totally fucking batshit incompetent fucktards of the highest order, they have returned it to you, rather than re-deliver it to me (this is seemingly beyond their comprehension)
I would be ever so grateful if when re-sending my parcel to me, you opt to use the mid-Eighteenth century American Mid West Pony Express service, as this will undoubtedly make it's way to me in faster time than HDNL. Failing that, put it round the neck of a fucking pigeon.
Yours
Eightball
*Ball of 8, you have rep.

If the Ubuntu has installed on your picture drive then stop using it for God's sake. Every time it writes to the OS drive it will be writing over your pictures.
To be honest, if the installer has formatted the drive and then put a whole OS on top of it, then a lot of your pics may well be gone already.
Turn off the PC, unplug the drive and take it to a recovery specialist. Now.
