Especially... if they use... a high pitched monotone voice... and put big pauses in their sentences... for no reason.
Spot on!

at least Noel Edmonds has the presence of mind to stay on his crap Deal or No Deal, rather than tryign to appear on every show he possibly can. it is easy to cur Noel Edmonds out comepletly, cutting out shitty fucking Russel Howard is harder!

I'd happily blind that talentless cunt with a teaspoon and fill the sockets with salt.
I can hear that one being read out on Points of View by Terry Wogan.

I don't think he was having ago at observational comedy, which can be very funny, just Russel Howards very VERY VERY VERY awefully unfunny brand of observational comedy
Unfunny to you. There's a reason why his shows sell out and his DVD's make the bestseller lists. Mostly because they find him to be funny. Your value judgements aren't any more valid than anyone elses and if the viewing figures support the presence of his programmes in the scheduling then it generally makes your opinion less valid.

Thats all true^^^ but other comedians who sell out shows and stuff, you can mostly see why theyre so popular but with Russell Howard I cant work out why hes got so famous. Maybe I just dont get him.
Its the type of thing that really really strict parents would let their kids see as a treat. -

Russel Howard's a tit. WELLLLLLLLLLL unfunny

Bernard Manning sells out tours and DVDs, So does Roy Chubby brown, what's your point? do the BBC nto have a remit to suply the public with interlurlectually stimulating programming, lowest common denominator comedy like Russel Howards is more the stuff of ITV

Haha!
I don't hate Russell H or anything, my reaction was more along the the lines of "wow this is* really* bad" and specifically in relation to that promo.
"People say the news isn't funny... how about these *genuine *stories... 'man steals clock [big pause] faces time'..."
I just thought: that's not even observational comedy because it was obviously an intentional joke in the first place. I'm pretty sure whoever came up with that headline had a little self-satisfied titter to them selves even though as these things go it's barely above flat-line on the lol-o-meter in the first place. It sounds like something from 1001 jokes for kids.
So then to do a whole "Hey have you ever noticed" thing about it complete with heavy emphasis on the real-world nature of the source material is just piss weak I think. I'm not sure it even qualifies as comedy does it? Just pointing out other people's attempts at mildly amusing wordplay?
And that's his a-material for the trailer.

You could apply that logic to everything on the forum and nobody would be able to say anything about anything. That's the point of mass debate.

Intellectually stimulating to who, when and how often. Surely intellectually stimulating the lowest common denominator is equally part of that whereas shows such as QI and University Challenge will intellectually stimulate those of a higher intellectual level. You would have a point if the BBC only showed Russell Howard, but they don't, they show a range of shows. I'm going to guess that you probably wouldn't find dirtgirlworld or The One Show particularly intellectually stimulating, which really begs the question, on this criteria why is Russell Howard the object of your ire?

Eggsakerly.

because he's so full of himself for someone that makes jokes like:
"People say the news isn't funny... how about these *genuine *stories... 'man steals clock [big pause] faces time'..."

Actually the point of mass debate is to consider alternative points of view. Without be espousing this point of view, we wouldn't be having this mass debate.
I'll append that by pointing out that I havn't suggested that anyone not say anything, I've only argued an alternative point of view. In fact I've only ever rarely objected to people sauing certain things on this forum and otherwise prefer to question motives behind peoples motives. In addition to that the point you refer to was made about the BBC, which is not solely a vehicle for mass debate. You could apply that logic to everything on this forum, but I haven't suggested that nor would I ever support doing so. It would be ridiculous.
Was that a straw man you put up there? If so might I suggest you come and collect your bale of hay.

It's a fair point and one that I make all the time to a friend of mine who regulalry gets enraged by various bits of low-brow pop culture. My stock answer is "Dude, it's not for you. It's not aimed at you. Just ignore it and you'll be happier."
RH however seems to be being marketed quite aggressively at me. I'd say I mainly listen to R4, 6music and watch BBC4 and BBC2 and I've seen and heard this trail dozens of times in the last two weeks.... to the extent that i could probably recite it word for word (including all the different variations on the closing gag used on the different formats).
That being so, and this being a funny/savvy/irrevverent internet forum that enjoys a healthy debate, i don't think stating a personal opinion/value judgement on the trailer is really that bold a move.

Agreed.
And nor is questioning a personal opinion.

Good point. Didn't mean to hijack.
He sort of scrapes in. He's totally out of his depth on telly, but then again, so are a lot of the comedians on the panel show circuit. I think a certain blandness is part of the job description. He seems to appeal to women more than men - maybe that's why us chaps don't 'get' him. I don't hate him though.
