  • My teeth have been through my bottom lip twice. Once my sister pushed me off a swing, then a few years later my brother pushed me off a skateboard. Aside from a bit of scar tissue, no lasting damage.

  • Oof a solid selection of face smashing stories there. Am so thankful I didn't severely fuck my teeth up. Today was the 1st day of solid food and chewing was agony, I can't imagine months of that. I can also speak for the 1st time too as my lip was so swollen that my teeth would rub over the internal lip scab if I tried to which was infuriating.

  • Penge.

  • I'm of an age where once upon a time you used to have to submit a job application on physical pieces of paper, handwritten by yourself, which you took seriously and you wouldn't bother to do unless you really wanted the job.

I miss those days because shortlisting the hundreds of cut-and-paste bullshit online applications from morons using content they have found on LinkedIn (I can find it too dickhead!), or have just cut and pasted fully from another application they made and not even checked to change the job title and organisation they are applying to is really depressing.

Also when using LinkedIn content don't just paste the script complete with square brackets around the info you are supposed to add yourself?

  • Is this better or worse than chucking it through chatgpt and sending the raw output?

  • handwritten

Never would have guessed you were this old.

  • Even my parents used typewriters.

  • I'm of an age where once upon a time you used to have to submit a job application ...

I submitted my first job application aged 45.

  • Even with the square brackets redacted or filled in, the sentence means literally nothing. No how or why.

  • Anyone remember the Standard Application Form? Some employers wanted you to complete their own application form, but many would accept a SAF. Get a blank one from the university careers centre and fill in the employer's name in the space provided.

I knew someone who wanted a job at J. Arthur Rank. He got home from a night on the piss, realised the deadline was imminent and filled in the form while drunk. In the space for his own name he wrote J. Arthur Rank. He was invited for interview and this was pointed out to him by the Rank representatives. They said they had no questions for him. They just wanted to meet him. After that everybody knew him as Rank. I can't remember his real name but I have happy memories of 'Rank' being shouted across a pub.

  • Is the salary mentioned up front in the job advert?
Recruitment is a shite business, I reckon most roles go to someone who knows someone.

  • Yeah it's NHS pay structure and all applications are anonymised before we even see them

  • I don’t want to kinkshame…but…

  • Was watching Richard Osman’s House of Games with the kids last week, one of the picture round clues was a picture of a goat and a picture of the sea. Cue blank faces. The answer they were looking for was Billy Ocean, but I can’t believe the clue was accident. Chapeau to the childish researcher who snuck it in.

  • I saw that and thought the same thing.

  • I can't believe an electric toothbrush has a screw on the vibrating actuator without any thread lock or any other method of holding it in place. Of course it got loose.

  • It has to wear out somehow, why else would you buy a new one?

  • I only ever used to hire lucky people.

So divide the applications into two piles, bin one half and select the recruit from those that are left.

    Job done.

  • I’m old enough to know what this means. I’m not responsible but I reckon this equates to fire and brimstone raining down on everyone in my town.
So, see ya. It was fun.
