i mean, did you all miss the bit where he STOPPED HIS WORKERS UNIONISING?
I wish some cunt had stopped the workers at my workplace unionising.

I'm not sure facts are being ignored. Like most things there's good and bad. The guy is a tool. Stopping his workers unionising is a dick move, but stopping them doing so while developing electric cars etc. is better than stopping them while developing weapons or new ways to extract fossil fuels. He's not the only rich cunt to fuck over poor cunts, but he's one of the few rich cunts that seems to be trying to improve a couple of things while doing so. Deserves being called a dick for it and some praise.

I'm not getting into this argument, but the Prius and Tesla are quite different - mainly because the Prius is a hybrid, most of which still get most of their energy form the petrol engine and can't be plugged in, while the Tesla is a pure Electric plug in.
This might sound like a subtle difference, but is hugely different in terms or bringing vehicles to market and getting people to buy them.
It should also be said that Toyota were keen to see things like the UK Government's ambition for zero emission vehicles by 2040 to be watered down, because they wanted to keep selling Prius based technology for decades to come.

I highly doubt VW, BMW, Volvo, etc would've been so keen electric cars as they are today if it wasn't for Tesla.
Feels like a retrofit of current perceptions onto a history that didn't look like that when it was happening.

I think most people would be surprised at how long car manufacturers have been working on non fossil fuel platforms. The same goes for some of the largest oil and gas companies...some are full speed ahead on plans to not sell oil and gas in the surprisingly near future .
In any case, cars built in the VW MEB electric platform are likely to start at a price of $22k or so. For that reason alone I think VW are doing more for elec car tech than Tesla.
What Tesla do with their cars is no longer that innovative, other than bells and whistles. They're just expensive toys.

You're forgetting the cool factor that Tesla brings. Imagine slipping into a Gant v-neck, slinging on a pair of G-Star Raw jeans and stepping into your Base Carnousties before unlocking your Tesla with your Samsung Galaxy S9 and hooning it down the M4 for a pint of Peroni at a top-end gastro. HASHTAGBLESSED.

I'm not getting into this argument
...he says before disagreeing.
I agree on the difference, and that convincing people to plug a car in, rather than fill it up are very different in terms of barriers to entry. But I stand by my original point about changing the auto landscape.
Also all of what Stonehedge said.

Complaining about Elon Musk's behaviour is like saying "that crew member was a bit rough when he put my lifejacket on and threw me off the sinking ship". Unions won't matter when there's no food or water.

My comment was only that you said the Prius has been a major catalyst for widespread adoption of electric cars.
Considering we don't yet have a widespread adoption of electric cars, and the Prius is a petrol electric hybrid, with almost non of the downsides of a proper electric car, I thought this was a dubious claim. You could argue the prius helped get us where we are now. You could also argue it will help hold us back from further progress as they try and milk that now dated technology for all it's worth.
The argument I was looking to avoid was the one about whether Elon Musk is a cunt or not. My input on this would probably not help sway opinions.

am i now.
your boi is a con artist who has somehow sold the idea that buying into his snake oil souped up go-kart bullshit will somehow solve the world's ills to over moneyed centrist dads. Look at his piss poor attempt to build a transport link in chicago that prioritised individual vehicle use over public transport. he's patently more interested in selling his fucking cars than he is in creating a sustainable environment that benefits anyone beyond the privileged few.
