That exhibition is doing the rounds and everyone is snickering, but I dont get it. His paintings are not awful, certainly better than 90% of the people poking fun. They are not great either, but why mock someone for enjoying a hobby? He does mountain biking too, are we supposed to find that funny because he is not a competitive racer?
He seems to be a more interesting and cultured person than most politicians and his hobbies are about greed & money than people like Tony Blair.

You're not from around here are you?

Sure hes a cunt for the things he is responsible for as a president, but Obama is even worse. Blair & Cameron are spineless shits who dont even have a moral compass, not even a erroneous one.
-
• #20038
Whether or not that's true, calling W "interesting and cultured" is ludicrous.
-
• #20039
Going mountain biking = painting pictures of people.
Exhibiting paintings of people = entering mountain bike races.

^^ Calling Obama "even worse" than GWB is more ludicrous,
At least it's in the fail thread, which makes it a sort of win.

here's something that explains it well
""He's a pretty good painter. I don't in any way want to say it's great art or anything, but he's not bad," Lawrence Weschler, author of True to Life: Twenty-Five Years of Conversations with David Hockney, told the BBC.
"It's just weird that this guy who once had this incredible power is not interested in writing about what he did or justifying it," Mr Weschler says. "No, he's doing paintings of people he once knew back in the old days."
The portraits, he says, have "a frat-brother quality. Me and my pals ruling the world - us and our hijinks."

They are only "interesting" because he is (in)famous already.
Are they more interesting than mine? Is Brian Adams better photographer than myself? Is Brad Pitt really better looking than me?

Has Bush done a Queen of our Heartz plate? No, I don't think so. See me after class, Bush

I think they're great, in a naive/outsider art kind of way. The quote above sums it up well. The bloke has an urge to paint and he is painting what he knows.
-
• #20045
either that or the man's a moron painting for the sake of it as he's too lazy / stupid to do anything else
they're terrible, artistically horrifically bad and I find it offensive that having done what he's done he can just go into the countryside and become a painter like he's retired from any old job. but then I don't agree with his politics.
look at his smiling little face...gah!!! fuck it, if I was putin I'd invade the USA just to avenge that portrait
-
• #20046
He's not 'become a painter' he just painting some bullshit portraits of people he used to work with.

I want him to paint me 120,000 dead Iraqis, using bullets, oil and blood.

I bet he has already, minus the blood and oil though. Hitler painted some cute pics as well.
