I don't know what happened to the man, I think he survived with a lot of severe injuries. Goodbye eardrums.
If it were me then I'd have parked the car in the garage and let it air for a week, but then that's americans for you.
Got away lightly, he made a thread about it

Secondly, the 'hummer' (H3?) you're talking about is not the same as the military version...

Still good.
I don't want to gross anyone out, so google Land Rovers Snatch or Wolf after an IED explosion. Pretty horrific. -

Sure. It's not armored.

That's because the land rover is a dated design. Perhaps if the military invested some money then there would be a more suitable armoured vehicle.
Off-road the land rover is better, it's what it was designed for. The hummer was specifically designed as a military vehicle then adapted for the commercial market.
Late to the party but the hummer H2 is actually a GMC explorer (the worst 4x4 ever) with hummer body work and a beefier engine to make it more rugged and manly. The hummer H1 is a civilian adaption of the military vehicle and to be honest although they are better than the snatch LR at absorbing damage from an explosions they are not that much better. Vehicles that size cannot really carry the necessary amount of armour to cope with the size of explosion that is all to common in afghanistan, they are often multiple artillery shells rigged to detonate at he same time, there are still millions of the fuckers there as the soviets left massive munitions stockpiles when they pulled out.

The last thing we need to do is spend more money on our military!
We already have the fourth highest military spending of all the countries in the world.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_military_expenditures
The figures are in dollars, but you can see we spent $57,424,000,000 in 2010- roughly $1000 for every single man woman and child in the country, in one year!!!
And we have spent £3.9 billion since 1998 on armoured vehicles.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-16101242Think how much good this money could do if it wasn't spent on killing machines! Almost 60 billion dollars a year, every year. Think of that money being invested in hospitals, schools, public transport, cycling infrastructure. Or tax cuts for the poor. Think how much good it could achieve!
Please don't call for more military spending!
(this is not off-topic because our military spending is an epic fail)

you want to stop spending money for the protection of the men and women driving while theyre in the military???

Lets not let the thread go down the "we shouldn't be in hlf those countries, therefore shouldn't be soending as much" road.... but yes, Lemonade - couldn't have said it better

The point was, as you well know :P, total military spending needs reducing. It's grossly out of proportion with other spending priorities, and therefore a fail in itself

Spending a lot doesn't equal spending well.
