  • Just to say thanks to ehren_fried_chicken for today's class. A very pleasant afternoon - I learned a lot. E_F_C was patient and explained it all well.

    recommended.

+1 Had a great afternoon too.

  • built my first pair of wheels and enjoyed a nice sunday afternoon
E_F_C is really friendly and helpful, would really recommend it to anyone who's interested in wheelbuilding

i would post photos of the wheels but am caught in the middle of house moving at the moment..

  • Would anyone be up for taking another build session anytime soon? Group/individual/whatever - I want to learn to put wheels together properly!

  • i'd be up for this

  • when is this being planned for, my front rim is knackered, so if it were this weekend i'd be interested - i have already ordered the new rim.

  • I don't think there are any plans at the moment. I PM'd E_F_C about it but he's super busy over the next month or so. Was hoping someone would be up for teaching another session.

  • The thing is I'm moving house and I can't really host the thing again in my new flat. If you guys do the organising this time I'm happy to spare an evening or Saturday afternoon. I'm can cycle anywhere in, say, Zone 1 and 2 (ish). The best time would be after the 20th of this month.

Be warned: Organising people on this forum is like herding cats.

  • sourcing bits at the moment, trying to do it on the cheap so no idea when I'm ready to build, but when I am, I'd be up for a class type thing

My bits sourcing can probably be sped up by a set date though. Why not aim a coupla weeks ahead, gives people time to shop + possibly get more on board?

  • Although I said upthread, that it doesn't really matter what rim you get, I have found during the last few sessions that rims with a at least a little bit of a deep section are easier to get right the first time round.
Have a look at Mavic CXP22 or CXP33, Rigida DP18 or if you're feeling flush Velocity Deep Vs.

  • Be warned: Organising people on this forum is like herding lolcats.

    Fixed.

  • I definitely couldn't host this, otherwise I'd offer and set a date. Housemates are non-bike people and never leave the living room. Obviously moving soon.

  • if E_F_C or anyone else wanted to hold a wheel building class at the 56a bikeroom or in another social centre like ramparts or the belgrade road social centre there's the space for it and they'd be more than welcome. anyone interested?

  • Didn't want to start a new thread and thought this would be a good one to ask in, I buggered up my rim, figured I may as well just buy a new one, I can just undo all the spokes, remove it and switch in the new one right?

Might just try to be a show off and buy a bunch of new spokes and build a 3 leading 3 trailing wheel though.

  • It's more fun to use new spokes but the old ones will do fine.

  • Didn't want to start a new thread

Today seems to have been thread starting day, so you might as well have started one. :)

  • Still feeling guilty about the F1 thread so thought i'd lay low =P

  • What did you do to trash the old rim?

  • Car cut me off and I went into a huge fecking pot hole that wasn't there yesterday, pretty bad luck.

"There he is! Flush him out!"

  • Car cut me off and I went into a huge fecking pot hole that wasn't there yesterday, pretty bad luck.

So was it an F1 car?

  • Haha nope it was a lovely new red Seat Ibiza, with an idiot at the wheel.

  • Believe me i have UTFS, but my simpleton brain can't seem to find clear instructions on 2x lacing. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

  • By the way, when building a wheel, don't forget to make sure the rim stays pretty much round, was feeling pretty good with myself after building my first wheel with relative ease only to realise that it's not exactly circular anymore, still, was fun fixing that ^_^

  • anyone got a wheel dishing tool i could borrow, pref in the NE area?
