Place where I live has a mezzanine floor above the kitchen- mezzanine floor terminates above the kitchen and has a glass waist height wall that stops you plummeting into/through the kitchen table if you mis-judge things.
Hence the area available to both insert the hook and rest the wheels is one floor thickness, therefore I have guesstimated that I would need to have a 46cm deep floor for one of these hooks to work.
Needless to say I do not have a floor that is almost half a metre deep.
Meh.

• #84
Where have I seen that brown bike before?
-
• #85
I bought 4 of these off Skully, but can only use 2 of them, thanks to pain in the arse builders who didn't put the wall studs where I want my pedals. God, what useless builders.
So anyway, unless I find another suitable bit of wall I may pass on the 2 spares for what I paid, which was £9 each.

What are these cryptic tags all about^? Obviously Trophy Bikes speaks for itself ... (guilty as charged), but the others?! Huh? Down with tags I say.
BQ: someone asked me for some the other day, i'll trawl my PMs to let you know whom cause I can't remember.

couldn't you use the heavy duty expanding plasterboard plugs, people hang radiators off them when there is no studwork handy? try searching screwfix for radiator hanging kits? maybe?

Assuming you're talking about plasterboard, you want:
www.screwfix.com/prods/12229 (there are longer ones (#11143) if it's two thicknesses of plasterboard)
which are most easily fitted using:
www.screwfix.com/prods/12429 (I'd really recommend using the proper tool, not trying to fix them using just a screwdriver).
They're good enough to hold big tellies to the wall, so they're good enough to hold a (rather lighter) bike ...

I've used those things, but they are crap. They only hold radiators because they are used over a large surface area and the pipework is holding the radiator up. I would not trust a TV to them either, seeing as they won't hold a toilet roll holder or a towel rail to my bathroom walls properly.
I certainly wouldn't be happy hanging bikes off them. Over such a small load area, if they don't fail the plasterboard will.Anyway, I have a buyer, so...

Bluntly, if you've fixed a bog roll holder or a towel rail to plasterboard using the fixings I linked to, and they're not fixed properly, you haven't used the fixings properly.
As for TVs, I've put a fair number on walls using them and not had any complaints about them falling down. I tend to make sure the bracket will take my weight before putting a TV on it.
I certainly wouldn't be happy hanging bikes off them. Over such a small load area, if they don't fail the plasterboard will.
Certainly worth thinking about. Looking at those hooks, my guess is that the bulk of the weight is acting in sheer, where plasterboard's pretty good. If that guess is wrong and there's a lot of force pulling the fixings outwards then yeah, there's a risk of the board failing.
But I'd say that the length of the arm means that there's not a huge cantilever action happening, so I'd definitely give them a go in my own place if I had (i) any of the hooks and (ii) any plasterboard walls.
Anyway, I have a buyer, so...
Fair enough ...

Found a UK supplier who has these for £8.50 and no shipping charges, but a min order of £50, so 6 will cover it.

Anyone else before I order -

Same thing? available in the UK:-
Strange looking link - but there you go
£10.38 a piece and they seem to charge a standard £6.50 P&P however many you order.

Yeah, they look the same, hard to tell from that pic. Bit more expensive though.
You don't need to know the bracket to wheel height. They (the wheels) just rest against the wall.
