as it's saturday, I won't be delivering any packages, so I will wear figure hugging cycling clothing and carry only a small rucksack containing playing cards, barley sugar and a tin of corned beef.

SHIT!!!!!! I hate work!!!!!!!! I may call in a bomb threat so that I can come along. If I dont, have a good ride kids!!!
-
• #385
doesn't look likely that I'll be making it. Knees playing up pretty bad, not sure 75 miles would be the best thing for them. I'll see how I'm rolling by Clapham in the morning, if I ain't there I ain't there. Have a great time if not.
(Anyone who says HTFU can STFU.. I was looking forward to this...)

good luck boys and girls.
meet you in the turf tavern.Any idea what the ETA is? I'll pop down if I'm not too wasted
-
• #390
well, at an very basic 15mpg average the ride will take 4 hours. Add in stops and the obligatory puncture or two (although with the dry roads I have a warm feeling that there won't be any today) I think you're looking at around 5 1/2 hours, 6 hours tops, meaning an ETA in Oxford of no later than about 4pm.
Maybe pick someone's number from the appropiate thread and give them a ring en route?
-
• #391
four hours!!.... fun fun fun....
-
• #392
Love your optimism Sam! I too have decided to take the path of optimism and have booked the 5pm train to paddington.
Ride like the wind!

• #393
are you people forgetting about drinking time!! I told the wife that was the purpose of the ride... getting drunk in oxford (and potential strip club)... or have I miss the point entirely...:(
-
• #394
No you are spot on! That's the only reason I usually do these rides. Today unfortunately I have a bbq at a friends house that I can't miss. I'm already going to be very late. But I'm riding on the very outside chance that we hammer it up to oxford in 3 hours and I get 4 hours boozing in the sun before coming home.

I skipped this to study. Now I'm sitting at my computer and can think of nothing but riding my bike. I think I'm going to take a trip to Brixton Cycles.

Took me 5.5 hours from Richmond going solo and I'm fat and crap.
Nice route and that last 15 miles from Watlington is a blast.
I like to roll just one of my trouserleg on my commute to the city, and pretend I'm a curier on a urgent direct. Ive got my mobile in a strap pouch on my top of the range Chrome bag, and sometimes I go threw reds and lock up the rear break on my hibrid to do like a skid or i undo my break wires to get the breakless look and feal.
Thanks provnrad. at least your not a unhlepful tossr like nimbush, and ad intresting stuff to the discursion.
