It may be time to rescue my antique mountain bike from my parent's cellar.
It's an Overbury's Peak Finder, made in Bristol in about 1984 and bought for the princely sum of £425 as far as I can remember. Its 531 All Terrain tubing, mostly Shimano Deore Staghead kit, Chrome Bullmoose bars and massive clearances.
I'm thinking a slight modification to a cruiser, as I don't want to smash it about over rough stuff. Fat tyres, fenders and racks may be the way forward. Hell, I might even treat myself to a brooks saddle with springs.
Pictures to follow...the first few may be of a very sad, cobwebby bike. -

I used just some fender mounts hacked off from a some old frame. Mount in the middle is home made from 1mm (I think, if remember right) thick flat iron shaped round and 6mm threads in for the bolt. - Then they just brazed in to some thin metal plate and after that rounded to fit better in the fork shapes.

@ Murphys and Miro, Jagwire also do this version that is adjustable and clamps the cable for better routing aesthetics.

Why isnt my cable housing going inside this Shimano SM-CA70 barrel adjuster? I tried it at both ends; tried filing it a little; still doesent go.

Just to clarify: you're using teflon tubing running the entire length of the cable inner?
This would work in Alligator iLinks (probably).

I'm keen the keep the cable right on top of the top tube – less risk of pressing into my face/neck when running around in mud. Good to know it's an option though. Thanks.

in other news, did an involuntary stunt whilst half cut on the rampichino the other day, endo'd and went over the bars, the outcome was a completely naused rear wheel
as lady luck would have it, popped into my friendly lbs on another matter, an low n behold,
the proprietor only had a fir (factory spec) 7 speed wheelset in black looking all forlorn at hanging at the back , and at a friendly price!
also scored a used turbo matic saddle with a strange green hue which juxtaposes nicely with the bottle/army green frame
pics tomorrow! -

@AngelD Thanks, but the problem isn't really the clamps themselves, as they have plenty of power. The problem is that the cable running between the two clamps on the toptube isn't taut but slack and therefore slacking around.
@miro_o No, not the entire length. That would only work with Nokon Style outer cables, as you mentioned. I run teflon tubing where the bare brakecable would be exposed, so between the two cable bosses on the top tube. I use Jagwire connectors to connect the outers to the tubing in a near watertight manner.
These endcaps have a liner that protudes. these connect to these rubber "rain covers"
which then connect to the teflon tube.I'll take a picture of the setup on the bike tomorrow.

Is that adjuster meant for brake cables?
If it doesn't fit, maybe it's meant for shifter cables wich have a smaller diameter (4mm vs 5mm)? -
• #96444
Tried it with both housings; doesn't work .. I am using lifeline cables.
It says gear cable adjusters http://www.evanscycles.com/products/shimano/sm-ca70-inline-gear-cable-adjusters-ec070034

Gothcha.
That is basically the Jagwire MTB kit, or did you manage to find the ferrules (with rubber boot things) sold separately?

Murphys, where did you pick up those "rain Covers"?
Would be dead useful for my CX/everything bike.
Bottle opener?
