  • Elite.

    Elites.

    Elite Custom Race.

I went with Elites. They a good, grippy and bendy material rather than scratchy and brittle (as the Tarcx were).

    Nice1 forum.

  • I need to replace the cartridge bearings in my Mavic SE Helium wheels, the parts number is ntn 690 ilu, anyone know where I can buy them or equivalents?

The bearings turned up today, 6901's fitted the front wheel of my Mavic Ksyrium SE Helium's.

  • thanks. not exactly sure. its an early one from 84/85. it was sold as a "city bike" but don't think that was its official name. its fully lugged 531AT. most likely built at F.W. Evans.

    I absolutely love this.

  • tyre on wrong way round.

  • ha ha, i noticed that tonight when i got in. it is now the right way round.

  • I have been slowly putting this together, and with a little help from the LBS its finally rideable. The frame is a 62cm 1994 Basso Astra, columbus ELOS tubing, bought from classifieds.

I'll change the bars for something silver, stem for something longer and saddle for something flatter, but other than that, I'm really happy. It rides great - very smooth, and likes to go fast. Can be a bit twitchy at the front, but I've been a croix de fer since last autumn, so it will seem a bit skittish after that.
There were a couple of issues like the derailleur hanger needed straightening, and the bit of the fork where the crown race sits needed filing, but other than it was quite a straight forward build.
A note for anyone considering Ambrosio Zenith hubs - they are really nice, but the skewers that mine came with weren't strong enough to hold the back wheel in the horizontal dropouts. I replaced it with an older internal cam skewer, and it was fine.

  • ^ yeah that bike is so clean, 57cm and would be prefect

  • ^^ is that the one with the 59cm toptube? Remember looking at it. You sure did the frame justice with the lovely build.

  • ^^^ I'm a sucker for red, white and blue (/purple?) bikes but that's bloody lush! I did the same trick with my Novatec hubs and Campag Veloce skewers, which have more of an old-school elegance to them as well.

  • Damn, so many nice bikes, Dave Lloyd, Saracen, Pete Dunn, and Basso are all beauties.
Looks like it's going to be a good summer for cp if nothing else!

  • ^^^^^ So lovely
    Silver Campag Athena?

  • White tape w black saddle can be OK. ^ proof.

  • AX brake looking strong bro
dinky argos is supercute - what size wheels?

700 rear, 650 front, seems to work nicely. Just got some new wheels from Arup Sen for the big yellow Condor (on commuting duties), very pleased indeed.

  • Thanks everyone.

Yep that's the one - I saw it and knew it was the one. Quite an unusual frame I think.

Thanks, your Ron Cooper was definitely in the inspiration folder. The paint is amazing. The red is really rich and bold, and the blue sort of fades between a dark blue and purple depending on the light.
The skewer thing was annoying - lost a bit of paint from inside the chainstay. I'll look for some nice campag skewers for sure, just using one from the spares box at the moment.

Yep, athena 11, with a NOS (does that count?) Ultra torque crankset. Will de-logo at some point. I am used to sram, so need to get used to the shifting, but I like it a lot so far.

Ha, I spent an unreasonable amount of time deliberating over saddle colour.
The team Motorola mx leaders from the 90's had white tape and black saddles. The look great, but they have a much lighter blue, and more white in the frame so wasn't sure if it would work.
In the end the concor is just what I had, along with a black arione, but I've been finding both of those quite uncomfortable over longer distances recently. The plan was to get a flite and a white regal, and see how I get on with them.
Sort of tempted by one of these too:

That might look cack though eh?

  • All of my bikes are currently at home, and they all work. This is unprecedented.

If I'm correct, this awesome bike is parked in the building I work in, SW1 code? (If so I'm parked in the opposite garage)

  • That's right!

  • Will the SuperSix headset low stack bearing cover work on a CAAD10?

Do 2014 CAAD10 frame sets only come with the large conical bearing cover, or a low one too?

    http://www.cannondalespares.com/blog/2013/12/slam-that-supersix-stem/

  • That's right!

I'll have to say hi at some point!

Also a word of advice just incase the rest of the building wasn't informed but a friend/colleague of mine had his bike stolen from our garage a few months ago totalling a £2000 loss (serious roadies at work).

I'm not sure what the locking situation is on your side but make sure you're locked up really well. It was a professional/inside job that was made possible because the garage door was stuck open for a few hours. We're now like fort knox over there but yeah, just keep your steeds safe.

  • Yeah I heard about that via email, was super worried it was mine until I got down there. The door on our side seems to get left open all the time, bloody annoying.

  • Will the SuperSix headset low stack bearing cover work on a CAAD10?

CAAD10s take a 47mm cover, only 1mm of stack height here

  • I'm constantly closing the door on your side in the morning and evening, the blue Geff Butler is my mates.

Anyways I'm Eren I work for the company on the ground/1st floor beginning with R haha. I'm the fixie skidder wanker so give me a shout if you see me!
