You can see the stem flexing?

If you're worried about stiffness maybe you should get a modern bike.

I'll take that, but I'm not worried about stiffness to the extent of getting a modern bike.
I love this frameset and groupset and I never felt like it held me back or anything. The only thing I don't like is the noodly cockpit. I'm worried about the stiffness of this particular bar stem combo.
Tell me that's not the stem flexing....

How stiff can a quill stem get though? I've not tried many but I've never ridden one that I've been happy with.

I found an aluminium jag to be really flexy but cinelli 1a and pro chrome have been fine.

Because soma

I used to own that stem and didn't find it flexy, I think about as stiff as a pro chrome. Stiffer than my quill grammo.

I have zero flex with my into bars

Yeah I want some m106

I've got a 1A + Soma Hwy One on this and haven't had any issues with it.
That said, I don't have any expectations of any of it being that stiff (skinny tubes etc) so maybe I'm less fussy. But I take this bike for easy paced long rides - if I want to get on with it I'd take something more modern.

would appreciate thoughts on how to build up.
to be used as quick fixed town bike, cages and straps.
think i want to keep period, early 80s apparently.moar: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ic284wn9la1giz1/AABzM-xaK_-_JMsCRyGREoTxa
(really feeling the rear bridge)
(thanks to jim3971 for the photography)edit:
this as inspiration: http://www.lfgss.com/post4280758-438.htmlPeriod correct makes you limited, just forget that and build a rad bike with the bits you like. Mine went 5 stages or so before arriving to how it looks now, and it's not finished yet.
Is it yellow and green?
i'll find out tomorrow! looked sunshine yellow at first but now all i see is green!
Lloyd is dreamy. Sick as a parrot over here.
let's hope it gets built up well.
Get some Zeus bits to match the drop outs ;-) I find they work well for period correctness and for hhsb points if needed.
If it were me, I'd do a period correct looking build but with some more modern components where it matters most i.e. sealed bb and sealed hubs.
see:
Replacing bb for Phil and hubs from Campag Pista to Formulas made a huge difference. Period correct build was nice to look at but felt too fragile.
i'll need to think hard about how i'll use it. thought likely that will change a few times.

Love the Rotter...
It´s a Kotter... and it´s out of order again.
The rear wheel is now on her other fixed bike because a beer bottle killed some spokes and nipples on that:

I'm pretty sure I can't do that with my M106 / Nitto Dynamic combination, although I'm no Chris Hoy. Possibly wishful thinking, but I notice the Dynamic stem is a little bigger in girth than (e.g.) the Cinelli 1A, so possibly a degree more rigid?

Stop mincing around and say you think. You think amey has more cash than watts and you're jelly of his ridiculous, ridiculously tasty wheels. Don't be shy.
I know him personally so do fuck off.

Maybe if I painted lots of little blue squares all over it?
-
• #94474
you can try, but,
nah -
• #94475
i'd like it in a silver or azzure blue though
I've seen him ride it and the stem definitely flexes a lot, a pro chrome will probably be stiffer.
