  • Not so much a current project, but a new acquisition. Got gears! Just needs a new stem and it's good to go for racking up the Summer miles.

  • That's nice Sam. What length stem are you after?

  • what happened to the SEAT CLUSTER Vinyl V ?

no worries i just read.... epic fail on my part.

  • That's nice Sam. What length stem are you after?

Hey Andy, I'm delighted with it! It's not particularly high end, but very pretty and rides beautifully.

    After a tentative spin, I think I need about a 60-70mm stem.

  • this is AWFUl!! how can someone let this happen :-(

  • that, sir, is foxy fixie.

I'm pleased you found one that fitted.

I'd offer you a stem but the shortest I have is 110 mm I think.

  • I've finally finished* a restoration for a friend I've been working on for the last six weeks.

*it still awaits a nicer saddle (Brooks B57 preferably) and a 13" white pump, but I'm out of buget now.

The entire restoration cost approx. £210 in parts, including a rare find square taper Thompson bottom bracket shipped all the way from the US.

Anyhow, this is what you can make for as little as two hundred quid and own labor in building it. Hope the guy I've built it for likes it as much as I do... it's a real head turner when you ride round town.

i am immensely impressed with this sterling effort. it looks absolutely wicked and displays more originality than ten dozen wanky fixies. the parcel shots especially 'do it for me'. me only question is, what's it the box? did you fabricate a fake parcel so as to demonstrate to functionality of your front rack? either way it's a solid performance and the pictures are indeed worthy of lifting.

when are we going to design an LFGSS merit rosette?

  • There should be a LFGSS Build of the year award at the BBQ!

  • Building a set of wheels exactly the same as these for my good lady's bike :) Dura-ace + Araya FTW, by far the prettiest rims around if you can live with tubs :)

White cloth bar tape with amber shellac ?

yeah thanks Ste S - on it re cloth tape and 3 coats of shellac - good call

NAHG... - yeah dude i can live with tubs, home town has amazing roads so no worries there, and i dig the feel of tubs anyways. yeah they are pretty wheels and i ain't a pretty guy, so i think i can pull it off, wtya reckon dude!!:)

Deffo getting some for my girls Bomber Pro but I don't know how I'd go with them in town, have a tub disc but it's only for best ;)

yeah, i found a small box which I wrapped nicely for this shoot (its completely empty). I wanted to show it as a vintage messenger bike.

My idea from the start was to restore the bike as a shopper that it should have been, but instead of groceries it could work as a parcel delivery bike, or as in the case of my friend who will be riding it - suitcase and lots of architectural drawings and plans. A front rack will make sure he can always keep an eye on them and make sure nothing falls out. But, yeah, i won't ramble on, but it took me days of careful planning before i started buying parts and putting them together, sadly the budget I had was a bit short to what I could have done with it, still I'm pleased.

  • oh come on - that bike is gorgeous - just needs some love. that paint scheme rules.

dont powdercoat it - you'll ruin it & make it look like every other hipster bike.

If I had the money, I'd buy it off you & carefully restore it & put a period correct group on it. I'd really love to have a sweet vintage road bike, so all of this talk about powdercoating it black is just sad.

the long term plan is to get a surly steamroller down the line when I have the money then get this frame 'properly' restored by BJ and move my geared stuff off my other peugeot onto this or sell it on. All the braze ons are staying as is and the current paint scheme/condition is NOT worth keeping. The powder coat will protect the frame more than fannying around with nail varnish and I have already asked BJ about getting replacement decals.

It will in no way end up like the travesties above and by the looks of the pics their paintjobs didn't need any work good or bad. It will have a rear white deep v (with the hipster tyre replaced with something more sensible and the vinyl check pattern removed) on a DA hub with DA cog, Truvativ chainset, front Normandy track hub with and open sport rim, silver quill stem and black fuji track bars and black dirt harry lever working an alhonga deep drop dual pivot. The houndstooth framepad is NOT coming across from the other bike. Basically stuff I already have bar one or two cheap purchases. So.... dry your eyes.

  • Bound to have someone lay into me about now- as earlier put a pic of a pretty girl we had at the studio today straddling this bike in the bikeporn thread...

Anyway. I bought this frame a year or so ago on a visit to Japan- i got it from the great guy in Punch cycles for about £220 inc BB & Headset, and have slowly been building it up; piece by piece, as and when i've had any spare cash... (I'm still after a now believed fabled 27.0 Nitto Post) so, anyway, after having this frame, and frame with various bits hanging on my wall, Yamamoto finally hit the street last weekend.... sure made a nice ride after my "beater" Holdsworth... (which i also love)

Anyway, here are some pics... The last one is obviously from the day i bought it at Punch...

  • nice

  • nice one Jeanmi ! authentic hipster razzle dazzle is that

  • And while i'm in the mood - here is next project.

Not sure where it's going yet - but it has horizontal dropouts - so will be SS for sure - will probably try fixed too - but as it's for street and dirt, i'm not sure how practical that will be...

I hope - i think i got a good price.- I'm hoping that Raleigh will take me to Italy this summer- the the Cinque Terre- I've not got it yet - but hope that i'll be riding to the south coast this weekend on it...

    • after all the thought and stuff i realised i wouldn't have time to get a custom build before June.. next year!

eeek... I wouldn't want to clamp any of my bikes into the stand on the tubing. Surely it'd be better to clamp on the seat post?

Most manufacturers recommend this don't they?

    Nice looking project btw.

na - it's ok - pretty soft plastic - don't do it up too tight- seems fine- if i really need to do it up tight - i do go for the seatpost of course.

Dylan - how's the missus on the Raleigh?? hopefully safe steady, and no where near as scary to watch as my missus on her bike...

  • jeanmi I was at your studio a couple of weeks ago for an open view and noticed your bike, was wondering ever since whose it was and if you were on here. very nice to see it properly

  • all good so far, nice n' slow.. brakes checked.
