  • that colanago looks the shizzle, good to see somebody else with fishing reel and golf club manufacturers products on their italian bike :-)

    Haha!

Yeah thought about that for a second... and then I saw the price of the complete bike with DA everything!... ;-)

  • yeah hahaha, i love the luggs:

can't wait to get it going...

Well tbf i really happy that someone on here bought it (seeing as i posted it in the ebay thread) so i can whats done with it, promise to keep that headbadge on its a beaut! looking forward to seeing it finished! are you thinking off taking all the bits off it (puppykilling)

  • I'm getting powder coated black and lining the lugs in white. Plus, an enamel resto job would be about 3 times more expensive than powder coating and considering I'm going to unemployed from the 16th a powdercoat is a luxury at the minute.

  • has anyone got any before and after close ups of a frame that was in pretty bad nick but then got powder coated?

  • well, here's one but it's not exactly completely rusty all over, just bad rush spot on the lugs area and such (hard to see from that photo);

    to this

  • yes, really. don't fret, i have a powdercoated frame too. your pic shows it perfectly actually- the powder wells a little in the crevices and often comes out a tad too thin along the edges (the latter not visible on your photo). the overall looks fine of course, but it definitely looks different to a fine enamel paintjob.

Haha, not fretting, Just being silly.
You are right about the thin outer edges though. But, as everyone knows the poor mans enamel is great for the dough.

  • cheers ed

  • Also here steveo.

    Mmmm like icecream.

  • holy turd buckets! was that an armourtex job? and was the frame just handed to them as it looked in the photo? please excuse all the questions, I am looking through all the powder coating threads I can find but none are really asking my pedantic queries.

  • Yes, I stupidly spent hours stripping, de-rustifying only to be told that they do all that in some sort of heat treatment. Then seal it all up with the pow-pow.

  • I just tend to get it sand-blasted to removed all the paint, oil, dirt, etc. and then proceed to powdercoating.

  • cool, I may have a go at some of the more obvious bits but if their treatment de-rusts and strips completely I won't go crazy.

I was gonna get a frame that I was gonna spray, but then I found this... so I decide nothing's gonna change on it.
I'd love a Paul Royal Flush chain set and track handlebars, but as we're in an "economic crisis"; the luxuries will have to wait :(.

  • 95% there, couldn't wait any longer - just got to get a dura ace front brake from somewhere and a decent pair of track pedals and I'm in, bar tape options anyone - obviously some brooks honey coloured ones but anyone seen brown colour, long track grips anywhere????

White cloth bar tape with amber shellac ?

  • this is my final summer Bob jackson

  • what's a summer bob jackson?

    really lovely by the way.

  • what's a summer bob jackson?

    really lovely by the way.

    are you being serious!?

  • which bit? summer because it's white and therefore demands fair weather?!

  • Building a set of wheels exactly the same as these for my good lady's bike :) Dura-ace + Araya FTW, by far the prettiest rims around if you can live with tubs :)

  • this is my final summer Bob jackson

That's absolutely lush, I really want a silver bike now :(

Luckily I have a baggy of the same metal-flake I used on my Fort in Silver :) Just need a suitable frame now...

  • Making good progress now.
BB-set is biggest problem now: Italian thread, 70-P-120 axle.

    • Frame and fork ALAN Super Record Pista 57x57: ordered, will arrive this month, I hope
    • Crank set Campagnolo Record 170mm 144mm Super Record ring 53T 3/32" I have on my Giant track bike now.
Ring may be replaced by 1/8", perhaps 52T or other
Maybe cranks will be replaced by same type in 165mm
    • BB-set: still looking around and bidding on sets, cups, spindles that may fit.
    • Head set: Campagnolo Record Pista, comes with frame.
If not good, I will replace it with the Record Strada I already have
    • Wheels: Campagnolo Record HF 36H hubs, Mavic silver tubular rims, tied and soldered spokes.
      Need to polish and re-grease.
Maybe I'll replace the rims for e.g. Super Champion (have) or Ambrosio Durex (I don't have)
    • Tubulars are on the wheels now, but not nice and not good.
Already bought 1 pc Vittoria Corsa CX via Ebay
      Now biding on more.
    • Saddle: San Marco Rolls: have. Just try to "paint"the leather black.
    • Seat post: Campagnolo Record 25.0mm comes with the frame
      Pantographed Alan? Polish?
    • Stem: I have a Cinelli 1A 14cm, but pretty ugly and maybe too long, so I've already bought a NOS Cinelli 1A 12cm.
    • Bars: I have a Cinelli 66-44.
Maybe I'n going to change for Cinelli track bars.
    • Pedals: just bought a pair udes Campagnolo Record Pista Superleggeri from another LFGSS member. Hope these are good enough
    • Toeclips: I have Campagnolo, size L, in aluminium and steel
    • Straps: I bought a pair of white Alfredo Binda's
    • Chain: I have chains. Not decided what (prerefably Italian) chain suits this bike. Style, image, period late 70's early 80's. Regina? Where to get that?
I can always use a Miche or something else.
    • Sprocket: got several 14, 15, 17 in both 1/8" and 3/32" but Shimano doesn't go well with this set-up.
      Maybe change to Campy.
    • Decals: have to order a set via Dutch ALAN importer or Cyclomundo
    • Shoes: bought nice (but not very good) Vittoria's #43. Fit well.
      Need to repair heel.
    • Shoe cleats: need T.A. J. Anquetil. Can buy from Mario Verhoeven's webshop
    • Shorts, jersey, mitts, arm- and legwarmers: I've to search for it.
Wool, Acrylic, etc. Something like ALAN, Campagnolo, etc.
Unfortunately I've got to wear a modern helmet.

    YES !!!
I've just closed the deal with Italy. I will buy the frame:
Frame Alan 57x57, fork Alan, headset Campagnolo Pista, seatpost Campagnolo 25.0mm pantographed Alan (?), chain.
    Believe me, it's a good deal :-)

Some cleaning and polishing to be done,
    new decals,
see if I can paint the Roll's black again,
    new chain,
    search for BB-set 36x24T, 70-P-120,
    and Campy Pista pedals,
and another Vittoria Corsa CX tubular,
and some minor things to be done.
Then it's DONE and I can ride it on the Velodrome!

Colourful & Shiny VS Smooth Shiny Sexy Black! ;)
    Fixed.

  • It hasn't arrived yet and I don't want to jinx it but I can't wait!
Thought I'd give you a taster.

    Any day now...

    Almost matches my avatar! ;)

now THAT is a nice bike; maybe we can meet up for a mutual Colnago drool fest. Or a ride.
