  • Cheers, I love it too, it's an absolute joy to ride. Not quite sure where it fits in on the forum…although it's basically new, think it's spiritual home might be rat bikes etc

  • Im gonna use break cable housing for shifting.

  • ^ not smart. get shifting cable. it stretches less, so longer well indexed gears.

    it sounded like confession though..

  • Yeah I cut it too short but don't have enough derailleur cable housing left to cut off a proper piece. Am replacing it with brake cable housing for the time being, which probably won't be a long time as because the housing was too short I also cut the cable itself too short and now it won't reach the derailleur. And the hangover is killing me fml.

  • So "a couple of changes" to my road bike has spiraled out of control and turned into a complete rebuild (only the frame and tyres are staying... procrastination and a student loan filled bank balance is not a good combo). The most important thing was wheels and they've ended up being the last thing I bought but now finally they're here:

Just waiting on a last couple of parts to arrive then I'll put it together hopefully at the weekend.

  • Yes!!! So glad you found a set of those, can't wait to see it built

  • Full DA 7700 + 3T cockpit + Flite Titanium.
Needs different tyres now and some pedals.

  • The previous shifters I had bought didnt work, so now with these new ones (not the cool ones I actually wanted, but expensive as f*ck nonetheless) finally had the chance to give this build a spin. It's been under construction for almost half a year now. Amazing how the power is transfered and acceleration so easy.
I have another front wheel, but at some point I want a 3spoke. Then all thats left is to put my saddle forward a bit and get rid of that bottle cage. Don't know yet if I will stick it under my saddle or rather between my aero bars, what should I do?

  • new saddle, grips and riser.

Got to get some classical pedals on it though. And prettier post & stem.

also just put a ribmo pt @ rear. Oh my god that is fun to skid. Feels like all the roads are soaking wet.

BTA (between the arms) first, BTA (behind the arse) next if you need more than one bottle.

Not sure what the disembodied hand is adding :-)

  • José is finished, been riding loads. Off to Belgium this weekend for some riding, should be doing some of the spring classics, namely La Fleche Wallonne, but we'll see what else there's time for.

Its a world of difference from the Campag from before:

ride is a whole more responsive and the shifting and brakes are just a in a different league, but that could well be because of the better cables.

  • ^ Thats porn!

  • Cheers!

  • Very nice spotter.

I was lucky enough to ride it last week, it feels great. Much jealous, especially about your Belgian adventure next week. Are you skiving school?

My Genesis frameset is in the country, just waiting for the customs monkeys to stop scratching their heads and realise there are no charges and send it on to me. Eeeeeeeeeeee

I've used my collected time in lieu to get a 4 day weekend, we've got to go to a big family party near Luxembourg which will be fun too.

  • how often do ppl re-cable their bikes and how much does it cost roughly? (parts & labour)

  • Frequency: When necessary, really depends on how much and where you ride.
Parts: <£10 for just new inners, up to £50 for a complete set of high quality cables.
Labour: A relaxed two hours at home for a complete replacement, you'll want one of these plus an awl and some needle nosed pliers at minimum, a Dremel is nice if you want to do a really tidy job on the cut ends of the cable outers, and I like to use a torque wrench on the cable clamp bolts because the range between 'bugger, my cable has slipped' and 'bugger, my clamp bolt has stripped' isn't that big.

  • In London's famous London, you could be looking at £60 labour charge for a full re-cable, which puts £120 of tools which will last an average cyclist a life time into perspective.

  • i have a quick question, i have a automatic drill with a torque control setting will this be ok to put my carbon bike together or shall i buy a torque wrench?

  • What could possibly go wrong?

  • drill it.

remember, the more you drill, the lighter it gets.

  • Lol I mean if I use it to tighten nuts and bolts etc I'm guessing if it has torque control it will be impossible for me to over tighten anything but I maybe wrong

  • Test it on an old stem you don't like NOT on the bike.

Maybe test it at lower than recommended Nms.

    • Is it rated low enough for the intended use?
    • Do you expect to only tighten every bolt when in possession of a power drill?

Even if the answer to both of these questions is an emphatic YES, buy a torque wrench.
