  • What are my options for brake levers on drop bars that fit modern compacts? I've got some cheapo dia compe levers on it now but they give a terrible, almost unusable transition from the tops

I'd like a set of sram levers but I've seen these for a third of the price,
anyone know if they give a good transition from the top of the drops?

  • I need one of these:

I sent Apollo a few of those. He might not have used them all yet.

  • i got these Condor rebranded tektros you could have for cheap if you want

  • Gaston, what's the tubing, looks like the same as my frame. Altec?

  • hmm, looks like Airplane profile.

  • They went from Altec to Airplane at some point. My Dream is Airplane. It'll be a year or two younger than that one but the main triangle tubing shapes looks identical.

Some people like them. At the Ribble price, you might as well get some to try, worst case you'll be out a tenner if you decide that only SRAM will do.

Those Tektros are large, they're pretty chunky and the hoods are long. I have a set knocking about you could have cheap.

The ones Bonor mentions are smaller and neater. Both have about the same amount of drop to the hoods, neither would give you as flat a transition as the SRAMs. The SRAMs don't have return springs though, you'd have to do the ol' biro spring trick or something on the unused lever.

  • Went for a quick ride yesterday to test the set up on my newly built dynatech.
The allen key fitting on the seat pin went when I tried to raise the seat post. I cut the seat pin out but didn't realise it binds into the frame. Anyone got a better solution than drilling it out?
The lug is aluminium but I'm pretty sure the "nut" part is steel.

  • What are my options?

........probably buy b0n0r's r200 levers, I use them. I like them.

  • cheers guys! B0N0R pm'd.

  • what dem wheels/rims on the crescent?

The tool wrap goes the other way round you crazyman. Nice bike though.

    All sorted! Thank you!

  • Wanted something a little more serious, as the current bike is 25 years old and I'd like to get some more miles in, so went with this. CAAD 10 2013, 60cm, black/white/raw. At 6ft4 I think it'll be the correct size, with a 59cm top tube.

Transplanting some parts from the Cross Check (sold), and keeping the Peugeot 653 as a daily. Will be SRAM Force gearing and brakes, Red crankset, Thomson and Koobi PRS, Hope BB with FSA BB30 adaptor, 3T Arx and FSA Energy traditional drops (I think), Hope Pro III on Open Pro Ceramics, GP4000s tyres, Salsa Liplock to finish it off. Not sure about road pedals or sticking with ATACs and Dominators.

Any experiences of London Bike Kitchen? Thinking of heading there and having a go at building this up myself.

  • No experience here but another place that hires out a stand and tools is Bikeworks, possibly worth considering if that's what you want to do. They have a big stock of random parts and bits and bobs in case you find you need an odd shaped nut or extra spacer to make it all work..

  • experience of both.
lbk is a great atmosphere and generally knowledge is super sound. i built my ridley oval there (integrated head tube too) and all was super smooth.
    bikeworks no comment.

  • Thrust verry nice build but not fan on this saddles on it.

Quickly set to see what the new fords look like.

    excellent!
good to see your building real bikes at last ;-)

    Steel is real...

    Altec 2

  • The frame does look mint. Crossing the streams slightly, having a Mapei bottle with a Rabobank paint schemeā€¦

  • What does that mean please?

Quickly set to see what those new forks look like.

    ...

  • ^

Combining two things that were not intended to be combined, basically.

Threadless forks are definitely the way to go.

  • woo ^ big fan of the mavic starfish cranks!

  • 193cm

Buy my Daccordi Pursuit, it needs a good home.

  • Looks great, but I have no need of another bike at the moment, I've still got to finish that one!
