  • No joke

Heh, I get what you mean now. Those are probably a bit too early (and definitely too skinny-looking) for the Dream though.

  • got one but too small and a columbus muscle...

  • Force is strong in this one.

  • is the look fork threadless gaston? if you want to sell it...

  • Still missing some parts I've ordered, but I wanted to check clearances etc... Not a massive fan of the funky dropouts, but I'll survive.

  • Looks like you may well win a Scobel prize for this build.

  • when I used to commute down the Edgware Road, there was a chap who had hooked up a 2 stroke engine to a BSO and used to do about 30 down the bike lane each morning, with what looked like a length of copper piping as an exhaust and the rear sprocket bolted to the spokes of a regular wheel.

also the chap above builds a bike with an engine, then uses public transport to get about?!

    Made me remind this
    .

    I'm bound for glory.

  • Tommmmmmmm: That Genesis is nice, but I don't think there's anything wrong with a Surly. The Straggler is special, they're not common and it fits the bill perfectly in my opinion. Fairly aggressive geo and all the mounts you need. I appreciate that it's cromoloy, but my Pacer was the nicest riding bike I've had, then again I've never ridden 853...

If not a Surly, why not get a Salsa? For example a Vaya 3? Just don't put a triple on it and slam dat stem and you'll be fine.

    Or a new Cotic Escapade?

  • The Surly is nice. (I don't understand the anti-Surly vibe either). But the Cotic and Salsa are hideous...

  • (jk, just finished mine today)

  • Yep. Aesthetically the Vaya is definitely Salsa's worst looking bike. And all Cotic's are hideous. I really dig the Surly though. Very tempted to buy a frame and swap the parts from my Genesis onto it at some point.

  • They're available for £365 now, too. Hmmm. Very tempting indeed.

  • But wait, you had a Surly...

  • Yep, the Pacer only had mudguard mounts though, max 28c w/ mudguard clearance and lastly, it didn't have disc mounts!

  • Ah, fair enough. I hadn't realised it was short on mounts. It did look excellent though.

  • Got the Surly because I needed the clearance, but I did a couple of hundred kms on an Equilibrium and I really liked it. As practical, comfy bikes go it handles like a proper road bike.

  • chickenleaverpuller can we have some close ups of Ryans work? Why didn´t you remove the rear brake cable routing?

  • Nothing against Surly bikes per se, they just seem a bit ordinary. I suppose Genesis are as well, but then there's that magic number to reassure me it's alright.

I'd be getting rid of something pretty special to get whatever new thing I decide on so it will have to feel right as well.

  • I always liked the all city space horse.

Hang on... Isn't there a CP thread by someone else who was after exactly the same thing?

  • I want some kind of bike that's hardy, and would be tough enough to withstand an alien invasion. I'd call it War of the Worlds.

  • The genesis doesn't have rack mounts I don't think. Didn't you say that's what you're after? It's just about the only thing (besides a shit paint job on the caliper version) that tipped me towards a Soma ES. The steel aint as fancy as 853 though.

Of course not such an issue these days with frame bags etc...

  • That Cotic Escapade frameset looks really nice, just a shit build imo.

  • I'm really not keen on all that super-slopey geo on the Cotic or Salsa. I don't think I really want a bike with a rack at all, but I will need one sometimes.

Maybe I will just try and sell the Pompetamine/leave it at my parents' house and see if I miss it, and see how I cope without. That reduced price Equilibrium is whispering sweet nothings at me though.

I need to neck more Evian like our cousins across the pond.
