It needs a flap so you can have a spoke card tombola imo.

Id bet money most riders couldent tell the difference between a tapered fork and a regular 11/8th all else beeing equal...There will be 11/8 forks around for longer than most keep their bikes imo.
The first part is true, the second is a gamble. 44mm will work just fine with 1⅛", so it seems a false economy not to have it on a bike one is presumably planning to keep for a long time.

When I changed the head tube on my project I thought tapered steerers was just a fad or at least just for cx and mtb. I regret that a bit now.
Edit: Then again, I start to think that future proofing is an illusion. With the industry moving this fast everything will be obsolete and old hat within a few years anyway.
When we look at old bikes it doesn't really matter if it's 1987 spec or 1993 spec as long as it's working and maybe period correct. -

Wooo 44mm club

future proofing is an illusion
True, up to a point, but there's still no harm in doing what you can.
If I were splashing out big money on a custom frame with disc brakes in mind, I'd be a bit worried about the dropouts, in case through axles on rear hubs take off.

Tommmmmm reported for chubism....
Too right. I'm definitely not a Chubby chaser
-
• #88783
I think it's the chub that's doing the chasing in this case...

Looking good!
How are the rims / breaking surfaces holding out, btw?
It's almost time for me to buy some rims and I'm still dithering between nice-looking Omega Vs and less-nice-looking-but-with-actual-breaking-surfaces Open Pros.
Has the ano started to wear off yet / how is it stopping in the rain, etc? -

What's the advantage of a through axle on a rear?
