Perhaps eddygordouk is just Nik Bowdler's lfgss alias?
Nah, long time lurker when I only had the roadie. Still green under the thumb with SS/FG riding experience but really up for getting on some long journeys with some people here soon.
^^Where is that? If it's anywhere between Eastbourne and Hastings, I'll be the old bloke doing 18mph average on 48/18, I'll wave.
Brighton! I'm hoping to ride out to Eastbourne soon ( when dry ) to hit the old IGSA run out there on my longboard so I'll keep an eye out.

As you saw there are pretty regular rides to Brighton so you could always jump on the train and meet us in London to ride back.

yeah that's my plan, I was just waiting to get this erratic brake setup sorted so I don't go wailing off a hill edge at the expense of others. I need to subscribe to the page where it will notify me of the next runs, and get a another back cog to flip and help lower my ratio a bit!

That's a good shout, what are you thinking for the other side? You might want to just gear down slowly as even jumping to a 50/15 (pretty much my track gear) will feel spinny from 50/12.

Hmm not too sure. I would like a ratio that would allow me to advance up most climbs from London to Brighton and upon reaching the top of Ditchling Beacon, flip the wheel and 12 it home...17/19 maybe? Talk about black and white ratios...

If you get used to spinning, descending into Brighton is nice even on ~70gi
If you're used to a big gear maybe you can climb on it too? I ended up having to do ditchling on quite a big gear once and it wasn't too bad. Although that was probably 25 or so GI less than you're on now.

You can do most climbs on surprisingly large gears if you have to. Obviously it's better to be on a lower gear, but it's not unpossible.

Hmm I'll have a gander then. Cheers for the advice!

Yeah I need to practice on some variable inclines to see where I have the most trouble initially. The latest STRAVA course for Brighton is a nice little climb (7%) so I hope to give that a go this weekend.
