  • Might do because I really can't be bothered to build up the seta, can't afford to complete the orlowski in time so I'll probably be on the brooklyn is some form.

If it's wet I'll be on 28c and mudguards, might consider 38c if it's dry.

  • I can't do gears, I'm incapeable. lots of coasting, crunching noises and looking down at the derailer wondering how the hell I get it to work how its supposed to.

Me neither but I'm sure I'd get used to it.

    1. Get the shifting set up right. Read the manual, or a bike maintenance book.

    2. When you shift, ease off the power a touch as the shift goes through.

    3. Don't shift when you're out of the saddle.

    4. Ride more / further / faster / more comfortably.

    5. ?????

  • Yeah but Indra i'm thinking is there any point to a geared bike, is there anything you can do on one that you can't do fixed, and have more fun at the same time

Annoy people with the sound of a freehub.

  • Alfine cranks; Tester approved

Alfine (FC-S500) is indeed "Tester Approved" but you won't be able to use the chainguard and a Hope SS hub, as the chainlines won't line up. If using a 9/10-speed cassette hub it will be fine, or you can move the ring to the outside and bin the chainguard. If you do get the Alfine cranks, get the 45T, firstly because big rings give a smoother and more durable drive, and secondly because the 45T chaingaurd will probably be easier to sell to a crosser building a 1x10 bike :-)

    Exactly .

    Dibs.

    Exactly .

you should learn to adjust your derailer or go to a bikeshop to let them adjust it.

  • Dibs.

Sure you can have first but on what?

  • Aches and Pains is so funny

  • Fixed is great but training with roadies without a freewheel is a pain.

  • Riding fixed with roadies is fun. I went out on my clubs bun run yesterday on a track bike, did 45 miles including and a few very steep climbs and descents. They enjoyed watching me suffer, I enjoyed getting to the top of every climb first.

However saying that there is no point in a geared bike is very stupid. If i had any interest in road or circuit racing then I would buy one in an instant. Or if i intended to ride across Europe or the alps. The fixed gear has its place, as does the road bike, whether you feel that a road bikes suits your own needs is another matter.

  • Although it's gotta be said, you're quicker than most on here are!

  • I made my BMX fixed cause FREEWHEELS SUUUCK!

  • If you want a road bike because you cant be bothered to go out and put the miles in on your fixed gear, then the reason you cant be bothered to ride is likely more to do with being lazy or preferring to look at pictures of bikes on the internet than actually ride them. And not to do with how many gears your own bike has.

  • or it's raining

  • Severity of hangover...

  • Wow. Such projects. Much building. Very nice bieks.

    wow. thats some crap.

tbh this is true for me

    or

    1. Fit Di2
    2. Set limit screws and indexing
    3. To shift, press button

Just my opinion. I have never woken up in the morning and thought 'fuck, I'm a bit tired to ride today, but would if only my bike had 20 gears and two brakes'

Current project wise I've been sorting out my Condor a bit, never was happy with the build. changes so far are: Ritchey Classic drops, new ATACs, Stripped SLR, Omniums, DA chainring. New wheels being built this week, all black Novatecs with Velocity a23 rims.

Apologies for shitpic. will get some nice ones when its finished.

  • New wheelset sounds really good, I'm thinking about something similar for the seta when the orlowski is done.

  • yeah I'm just after something a bit lighter and more quality than whats on there, but still strong enough to cope with the odd hop. 28h front 32h rear, non machined sidewall instead of leccy tape, female axle novatecs..

    really want this:

your Orelowski looks sick btw. especially with the Corima on.
