Graham's right, it was almost certainly built by Terry Dolan back in the day when he actually built bikes.
It's very nice too btw.
-
• #8728
Terry Dolan used to work for Cougar before he went his own way so it may well be true, or just a selling point
Nice frame though
it's a cougar! apparently it was "handbuilt by terry dolan". Now, i'm pretty sure that's bull shit,
Terry Dolan was Cougar, or rather it was his company/name. Lots of the Cougar frames where made by Terry himself, he is a frame builder, what else would he be doing there?

starting fights?....... i hear he's good at that.

• #8730
He could've had a team of builders smartarse?

ed get some vintage chrome bars for that stem, those cinelli's look horrid
-
• #8732
If your in nottingham and see an ugly bloke pushing his bike along whilst holding the stem say hi.
I'm in Notts, i'd like to see that in the flesh. I'll keep my eyes peeled.
-
• #8733
sell it promptly,
-
• #8734
ed lovely stem dude! You though about trying to get a replacement bolt for it?
That cougar is fucking amazing.
btw Gizmond what's wrong with that bike as it is?! Don't paint it.
-
• #8735
I need to get it rechrome first thought, it look far worse in the flesh and need to do something about the bolt on the top!
I think £40 is a bargain for Titan 100mm track stem, especially when I see similar stem go for £100

That Cougar is a beautifull frame - i love the paint jobs they had
However it looks all wrong with the 700 c front - surely you can find a stem/bar combo that will let you run a 650?

cheers guys. I didn't know about dolan working for/being cougar. Il paste the ad here later on, can't ATM as I'm on iPhone, but yeah it said handbuilt by terry dolan for rob hayles (I may have this wrong... Will edit) as a sprint frame. I'm guessing he's about 6ft as the frame fits me spot on which is good as you don't get much play on the seat post :-)

who knows what the future holds! Those aren't expensive wheels so I'm sure they won't be there forever. Right now though I just wanted somthing light and strong. I'm not exactly a purist.. Closet roadie maybe :-/
-
• #8739
The fork in that Cougar is not the original is it? looks like it was build for 650c front. Nice frame though.

Just waiting for some Ellis-Briggs transfers to arrive then it will be complete. I tried to make it quite understated.

Running it on the HED for ponce value, and cos it looks great. Need to remove a link from the chain to tighten up the rear wheel, but feels great, sharp and lovely...

Sorry about the MASSIVE photos...

-
• #8744
is that rigida dp-18?
-
• #8745
nope, deepV me thinks
-
• #8746
I brought it for £20, pretty good price considering, especially for a NOS, and reasonably light;
What I'd have given to find that shop about a month ago. NOS non-ano shallow road drops!
Good site, can't believe I haven't seen it before.

Thanks Skully, no chrome i'm afraid. It's going to get an overhaul soon paintwise.
Unfortunatly i'm up in Leeds this weekend (I recommend Sunday night gig at Brudenell social Club for those up north), can't tell you how much I enjoyed a day in the country on the Carlton. Beats innercity riding!
I popped into madgets, they're suprisingly track orientated, some nice merican/bob jackson track frames.
Enjoy your JRJ, looks lovely.

. Need to remove a link from the chain to tighten up the rear wheel,
You won't be able to get the rear wheel off unless you take the chain off using a chaintool, which of course is a pain in the arse everytime, trust me...
It's fine as it is
Terry Dolan used to work for Cougar before he went his own way so it may well be true, or just a selling point
Nice frame though
