Need to sort out the tyres still, got space for atleast 42mm in the front (modified 27" fork) and about 35-37mm in the rear. Other than the tyres its already ace.

What are peoples opinion on road bikes? i mean after riding fixed pretty much every day and being much more used to it than gears, it just feels unnatural.
Any one get this to?

I'm thinking of building up a Pompetamine for commuting duties, and for tackling the odd off road exploration. This would be my first foray into single speed, something with disc brakes, and building a bike up - everything that I've owned or ridden has been geared and OTP (I know, I know).
What sort of parts would be good to look out for for a budget pompetamine build? I'm looking for cheap, hard-wearing stuff - I don't want to care if I fall off it going through a ditch, lock it up outside, get it filthy etc etc.
Been following this thread http://www.lfgss.com/thread119866.html with interest, so I might just copy that :)
The other option is to wait until my C2W scheme renews in March and get myself a Genesis Day One Disc, but a) I already own an Equilibrium and b) I think I'd end up caring about it too much...

Alfine cranks; FSA Orbit headset; BB7 Road from Taiwan; OTP 29er wheelset or a used Hope Pro2 wheelset; GUB CNC seatpost from eBay; PX Strada handlebar; TRP RRL levers (pricey but would work great with BB7); Tester approved sub £10 chain; Velosolo SS kit; Vittoria Rando touring tyres (or trail) etc

Thanks mate, this is exactly what I was after! Those levers are a little pricey, though. Would Tektro RL 520s not work as well then? They seem to be available for around the £20 mark

I've never had cable pull disc experience myself but RRL's have reputation to be better than most for cable pull disc brakes according to the interweb]
Someone like Howard/edscoble would know

Nearly finnished my Pana, finally got the right ratio (51x19) for me. Just not sure to go with a Zen or classic DA chainring?
-
• #87222
Looks good, I like the Zen with the deep rims.
-
• #87223
oh thats rly classy! Would change the bars myself (pref risers or hooded compact drops) but thats just riding preference.
-
• #87224
i would say classic, but i guess you already got the rims to match
Stem really dose look like a chodey limp dick tbh, to short i hope.

I can't get enough of my Somec. Only got back on Saturday, and it was the first bike I had a deep urge to ride.
Talk about last gasp.
