5700 8sp exist?
No they don't but if you use them with 8sp shifters it works fine. i just don't need more gears and the suntour commands are just awesome once you get used to them....
i mount them under the brake lever though, moar comfy riding in the hoodzzz...

Hi, new the forum and London. Had this for a while and have been riding as you see it. Late 90s Pinarello Stelvio, black with subtle sparkle paint, Campy Athena 11s. As it's my only road bike right now thought maybe I'd try modernizing it a bit for this spring. Really want new wheels (campy Zondas/Neutrons?, something handbuilt?) as the current ones are boat anchors. Really could use a new headset as it still has the original Shimano 600 with ugly extra spacers but couldn't be fucked to change it as of yet. Also been long thinking of trying a Columbus Minimal Carbon fork with a CK threadless headset that I have handy and maybe try a modern cockpit (Deda/3T compacts?). Any thoughts, suggestions, hate welcome!

Anyone seen the new cinelli parallax in the flesh? Can't decide between that and the navy/pink vigo.

I see a (lovely) bike that I suspect has either the saddle too low or you could use a bit of toe-touching. Currently there's no saddle-to-bar drop.
1st upgrade might be a bikefit?
Not intended as hate at all. Get your fit sorted and you'll enjoy it whatever parts are fitted. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks. My shortish legs make fit a little tricky (I'm all torso I think) whatever my next bike ends up being I'd prefer it had a slightly shorter seat tube but with this same top tube length. That said the saddle can probably come up a few mm. The plush saddle isn't helping either (more plush than I need to be honest).
The bars can be dropped alot but I can't do that until I replace the original headset as it has about 1.5cm of spacers on it (pic attached). Gross, I know, but i just havn't gotten around to it. I'll probably start there.

Catching up a few pages...
Worst case for a bolt on sprocket is likely to be a 2:1 drivetrain plus a heavy bloke on long cranks, applying 2000N at a radius of 180mm for 360Nm at the crank, reduced to 180Nm at the sprocket due to the gear ratio. Bad news on a 1.370"×24tpi thread, where the suggested tightening torque is about a quarter of that.
So...
This freewheel (Except mine's got a red face not green so it's probably the not the trials version with the beefier outer casing):
Which according to the blurb at TartyBikes- Uses 1.375" x 24 tpi thread. Please note that this is slightly larger than standard 1.37" and we recommend at least 9 threads of contact between crank arm and freewheel to prevent the crank arm thread from being stripped.
These hubs:
which have 1.37"*24TPI threadsISO freewheel on a British-threaded hub.
Polo gearing 38 : 22 = 1.727:1
175mm arms.
2000N => 202Nm at the threads80kg rider doing standing starts
Schwalbe Kojak 35-559 on a XC717-Disc rim at 80psi => 630mm rolling diameter?
Absorbing the torque peaks:
32 spoke 3-cross DT Competition 2.0-1.8-2.0 with the inner spokes all trailing, Izumi Standard 1/8th chain, Goldtec "DH" SS ring on Shimano XT M770 cranks , M770 SPDs, decent "carbon" Northwave mtb shoes...What are the most likely failures?

Or, if not, it looks like there's going to be plenty of work out there for dentists. Off to buy more shares in Cervelo...
