is my rear wheel just out of true.. or fucked? it seems a lot more 'erratically' out of true than other wheels i've had that need truing
I reckon you could true that back, it's just 'pringled'* slightly rather than one point on the rim being out. It could take a while and/or be very frustrating to do.
- Basically the overall tension might be ok, but spokes on opposite sides of the rim are pulling in one direction and the perpendicular ones in the other. It's vertical dips / dents in the rim that are near-impossible to fix.

it might be new rear time i think in that case
probably a goodtime for it, the clip you can hear it 'clip' and it makes an awful sound sometimes
plug the cogs stuck on it and no amount of rotafix was solving it
Where to get low flange novatec track hubs?

Just ordered a surly track hub from Hubjub, looks great, being Surly i'm hoping its trusty.

As your LBS if they can order it in for you.
Incidentally colleague were looking for a low flange low spokes hubs with a reasonable weight, the Novatec were the closet for the money.
Stick some A319, if build well, can stand up to quite a lots of abuse.

They're decent hubs, but quite expensive when compared to the Formula/System EX/Amboriso variety that'll do just as well.

Yet cheap compared to Paul or Phil.
The new design is pretty nice.

Novatecs looks better IMO:

^ Nice.
Higher priced items usually means lighter/stiffer/whatever upper hand on cheaper stuff and if I have the cash, yeah why not some Phil/Mack/Goldtec but for a runaround I would just go as generic as possible. Bearings are easy to replace, haven't had any problems with my hubs of 2 1/2 years.
Each to their own but I choose substance over form within a certain budget via a cost-benefit analysis, does losing xx grams > xx more I am paying?

Anyone know where I can get extra Italian threads cut into my forks? Need them extended about an inch...

Hiya!
Can anyone advise on the consequences of adding longer forks to a frame whose geometry currently looks like this:
Please excuse the build, it's a 2 year old pic and things are a *bit * nicer now!Carrying a rucksack on the commute is pissing me off, so I'd like to fit cyclocross forks so I can have a cargo rack, and also bigger/knobbly tyres & mudguard. I thought a cargo rack would just allow me to slap my backpack on there, instead of having to shell out for panniers too.
The current forks are roughly 34cm crown to axle, and Surly crosscheck forks are (I think) 44cm. Surly forks seem the best fit for my intended use, and more importantly for my budget.
Basically I don't really know what's going to happen to the handling/ride quality etc etc. I'm sure it's not gonna make massive difference, but thought I'd ask anyway.
I don't really need amazing handling or anything, as it's a mostly rural commute into a not-very-congested Sunderland. Just as long as it's not gonna be unridable...Alternatively, if there's better suggestions than the above for getting a load off my back and onto the bike, I'd love to hear em! I'd like to make this bike a bit more practical till I can afford to have a Surly Ogre in my life :)

If the geometry are similar to a traditional track bike, a CX fork would likely to raised the headtube to a similar angle as a CX bicycle (72-71 degrees), the biggest disadvantage is the higher bottom bracket that's already high enough on a track bike, it'll also make the bike handle slightly more nimble than the traditional track geo.
Some people may notice the slightest of difference, some won't, if you're not that fussed on the handling of the bike, then there's a small chance you might not notice, or care as long the bike handle fine.
My suggestion? get a suitable frame instead, like the On-one Pompino.

Why would you want to fuck with that bike? It looks great as it is. Putting a fork with a longer blade will not only (probably) destroy the handling, but it will ruin the aesthetics.
What about getting a Wald basket? You'd probably need to change bars to fit them, but it won't be as detrimental as fucking with the whole geometry of the bike.
If that isn't an option and you have a bit of cash. Look for Nitto's luggage solutions. These usually fit on bikes that aren't originally intended for panniers.

Hah.
It will destroy the handling, like it'll cause it to turn left instead of right.
It only will make it handle differently.

don't get cx forks!
there should be plenty of steel audaxy road forks with rack and guard mounts around that are not that much longer than than the ones you've got.
longer blades and more rake will affect the handling, and so will a rack with a load. but none will render the bike unrideable. -

Hadn't considered this. I guess a slightly higher centre of gravity might not be the best thing when conditions start to get snowy/icy?

I would really like to do this, or something similar, but storage and budget are both big problems for me, unless a second hand Pomp came up for peanuts.

Haha! Probably a good thing I don't have more recent photos, it looks like shit at the minute. I'm considering fucking with it to make it better suit my purposes, if possible.

Both decent suggestions! I will look into them.
Thanks for the feedback gents :)

Another one is the Basil rack which probably required you to put flat bar/riser on it.

possibly.
historically randonneur forks designed to carry a load would have longer rake/less trail.
Mine looks worse rogan, i tried like 3 times to true it.
New wheel coming soon.
