erm, ed. a longer crank arm will put the foot further down when in the bottom position. you need to lower the saddle. and yes, your knee will get closer to the chest when pedal is in top position.
But it affects the horizontal position as well - in forward position the knee cap should be directly over the pedal center, which means with a longer crank arm I have to sit a bit more ahead.
Thomson only makes 130mm stems - who makes a similar great stem at 150 or even 160?

I'm after H PLUS SON archetype rims. Does anyone know who stocks these in the UK?

With free delivery and £45 a pop hubjub has to be cheapest, unless you want the rims in the tokyo fixed sale

Which one is that? Looks decent.
Bottle cage is carbon pro shimano cage, and the mount is actually a speedfill stem
He did once, but then sent it back to canyon
I did it before and I'll do it again, just waiting on some new silly wheels to arrive to completely overhaul the canyon...

my birthday is coming up so my girlfriend bought me this:
The seller didn't know what it was, but said it might be German. From the lugs and fork crown i think it might be a Gitane? If anybody can tell, let me know. If i can get an i.d i would like to get decals for it.

My Gitane looked exactly like that, but with other paint ofc.

psee
Cool, the seller says it is English threaded. From what Google tells me Gitane used different threads at times. What was yours?

Mine was French.

Finally got to see my new bike, the 853 Donohue lo-pro:
Apart from the Ellipses and a 105 headset, it's not a great build. Also not actually rideable as it's brakeless and the chainring bolts are all loose. I have a new chainset but have lost my crank puller somewhere.
Half-link chain, worn cog and chainset are all off, and the bars and stem have already been swapped for a black quill and spotter bars (as used by spotter, which means he now doesn't actually own any any more) with Sram S300 levers.
Also, my parents were keeping it in the greenhouse, and being unlacquered raw steel, it didn't like that too much, so I also have to decide on a colour scheme and decal design.

I love having a project.

Pfft I (re)taught both my parents to ride fixed, it's possible.
Maybe one day they will return the favour...

Just finished Dave
Good to see Dave being ridden - as I think I said at the time it's quite likely to be a restored Mercian. Here was my retronerd build - not so good for winter riding!

In two and a half years of owning it I was never able to decide whether it was blue or green. Seems to be very light sensitive.

Turquoise I think would describe it well... but I am still not sure. I think it might be a mercian... I dont really mind who made it, its a great bike. Did have to drill it to accept the brakes which was a shame but things move on I guess and most nutted brakes are shit.

Cue tester's "It's all about hip closure angle"
It's not all about that, but it can be a limiting factor after you have lowered your saddle to maintain correct leg extension when using longer cranks.
Of course, there is no need for anybody to use any crank length other than 165mm unless they are particularly short legged, but manufacturers supply what punters demand and the punters (even up to ProTour level) still haven't read the science.

Am I kidding myself in believing that I can maintain a higher max cadence on longer cranks then? Ceteris paribus obvi
-
• #81274
Yes
-
• #81275
And you probably didn't Ceteris paribus properly, because changing the gear ratio to maintain gain ratio over a small change in crank length is difficult. Longer cranks + no change in gear ratio = lower gain ratio
