I was just venting some anti-Rigida rhetoric. I feel better now.

You can get tyres onto Sputniks with Schwalbe Easy-Fit*
*may also require multiple retries and about 170psi; yes, the Sputnik profile is a proper PITA with tight tyres

Hey guys,
new here, just introduced myself in the welcome thread.
Here is my bike, a canelli track, almost done with the parts, just need a new crank and to get rid of that black paintjob...cheers from Paris :)

That looks like an awesome daily rider to me, No idea what those cranks are except for cool as hell and they go nice with those older style hubs (and I wouldn't expect as many people would want to take them).
Lose the half-link, though. You don't need it so why have an inferior chain? -
• #81006
Yeah, get a decent chain!

+1, and the Vans sticker.
A pretty interesting bike.

They look like they've already been taped, albeit with the nasty Benotto type stuff which does nothing.

^ umad bro? it was good enough for Francesco...
What is the chainset? looks a bit Nervar-ish to my eye, but I'm not 100% sure.... -
• #81013
If Francesco had known about Fizik Microtex or Lizard Skins he would probably have been even faster...

have some rep.

hey,
yes I should get rid of that chain as well, I got it because I used to have bigger tires and the rear one used to touch the frame when the wheel was fully inside the dropout. That chainset is an old shim 600; changing it is my next upgrade.
And yes it's tapped!

600 3-arm.... Never seen one of them before.

Yeah, get a decent chain!
Genuine question: why people get so angry / upset with half link chains? I don't use them, but I just don't understand... are they massively heavier or what?
-

They stretch...
-
• #81019
Rubbish.
Bikes shrink in the rain.

they snap, they're ugly and they're heavy

They stretch...
Considering how the links are shaped, I can see that happening now, indeed...
Rubbish.
Bikes shrink in the rain.Hehe!!

they're ugly
Fair enough...
they're heavy
Happy to believe that...
they snap
Really? (again, genuine question... I use one half link on my track bike, to get a better compromise with my rear wheel position - if I bring it too close to the BB, the tyre hits the non drilled "brake" bridge because I use 23c instead of 20c... Am I going to die because of a potentially failing half link?)

A copy of the Rene Herse crankset?

That's exactly the reason why I'm using one as well.
All I can say is that it's working well, for 2 years now so far.Now that I have switched to tighter tires, I'm switching to regular chain but can be really helpful in some situations.

TEASER...
I think Ed was probably talking about the Grizzly CSS, which is very different from a Sputnik
