  • Can I have the Flite TT please?

  • ^Why dude ? ^^^^^ It is already on my 90'TTbike and it seems that it performs well...Isn't it ?

Do not attach to the intangible ;) I search many parts bike but if you've really nead it for a finally build. We can barter if you have what I'm realy looking for.

  • I thought it was just in your pile of potential saddles, I was trying to make your decision easier.

I already have one Flite TT and I really like it, so I would like another for my road bike.

  • I am reassured ;)

  • I am likely going to be doing a very long commute starting in October three times a week (60 mile round trip).

I am going to be getting something on the ride 2 work scheme almost specifically for the commute that has to come from Evans (unfortunately). Right now, it's narrowed down to a Genesis CdF, or a Caadx with 105. I want clearance for 28c tyres and fittings for mudguards. Is there anything that I've missed?

At the moment, the CdF is in the lead, purely because it has discs rather than cantis. Am I being naive about cantis vs discs or are cantis really as weak as people say?

  • if people can cross race, and travel the world on cantis then I cant see them being weak at all!

  • yeah but with cross there is natural resistance of mud and shit. Bearing in mind this bike will get ridden through the winter and often have heavy loads on the back of it.

  • On-road I wouldn't worry about braking power - apart from when its wet then discs win easy.
Doing that kind of mileage I would opt for Discs - set up right you won't need to touch them - brake blocks wear pretty quick.

  • Discs are far superior not just in performance but in wear as well.

Discs can be had for around £10 a pop, replacing rims is a bit more costly and a ball ache.

I spent a lot of time pissing about with the BB7s (upgraded from BB5s) on the Boardman, and they work fantastic now. Good feel, good power, reliable, wear well.

60 miles round trip is a long long way, impressed if you can manage that without burning out. I was doing 19 miles to work, 12 hour shift and 19 miles home and got a bit ill as not much time for sleeps. Now I do 16 miles to work and train most of the way back. (maybe I'm weak)

  • I did 20 miles each way previously 4/5 times a week before and it was all good, only have nine hour shifts.

Yeah that was my thinking. I will probably just go for the CdF. Only benefit of the Cannondale is that it's lighter and they're aluminium craftsman. But it's not as convenient or as fit for purpose.

  • You'll end up strong doing those miles daily!

    Not headed stateside then?

You've got a CDF in the living room, not sold on it?

I'd much rather that than the cannondale I think, for commuter and all weather road riding at least.

As soon as you get some 32c road tyres at 80psi and guards on there you won't care about a bit of weight. And as my dad used to say, riding a heavier bike makes you faster.

  • Jack's is a Croix De Fer. I don't really like the colour of his in comparison to the CdF and they're quite different in that he has a nicer grouppo and hydro discs. But yes, I'd happily commute on one.

I'd prefer a Kaffenback, but obviously you can only get them through PX. The value for money is incredible....

Yeah I will be, hopefully, but most likely not till Spring.

  • Buy a brompton, sell it and buy another bike from anywhere with the money - would your work care?

Or buy the cnnondale and buy some avid shorty ultimates.

  • Probably not and to be fair, my last Ride2Work bike was written off after I was knocked off and I got something else and nobody cared, including Evans...

  • Can always switch canti for mini-v? Running a set on my Cross Check, they stop well under load and no issue with clearance running 40c+mudguards.

  • in stock in size small

  • ^Did consider...but it's a Pinnacle malaysianz. Could always have it painted. Very good value, though.

Think small is a bit too small as well.

Well, TT is 54 which is good, but ST is 49... I would have soooo much seat post.

  • Pretty standard for compact frames that size innit.

I bit the bullet getting the boardman. Spec looks decent on the pinnacle.

  • Spec on the Kaff looks better though!

  • cdf only has sora? get the cannondale

  • Yeah, Sora >>> I may get the Pinnacle tbh. I am just worried about cantis. Will test ride and see what they're like.

  • You sure you can't buy through PX?

    Discs > cantis 1 mirrion %

  • New Sora is alright. But still only 9 speed.

  • ^^positive. We're signed up to Evans Ride2Work. Only Evans accept it and bossman doesn't want to sign up to cyclescheme.

  • Get the CDF, buy dammit's V Twin with that you will be able to have similar set up to geekhouse and swap wheels between bikes ;)
