  • Annoyingly, the crown race is Italian (supposed to be a Roberts, so this is odd...) so I'm going to get it reamed. Does anyone know if Vaz can handle things like this? Would save me some trouble as he's very local.
    Can't be arsed getting an Italian headset, and none of mine fit.
    Bottom Bracket (Italian) is in the post, then it'll be all lovely and dura acey with white finishing.

    Nahh. 10 speed chains are weak and expensive enough for me.. I kind of liked that sram had stuck to 10 speed. Then 22 reared it's head

  • Chesini Precision ('83?)

    Columbus SL tubing, Campagnolo Super Record and pantographed Chesini parts, Mavic SSC wheels.

    Bought this bike yesterday, only cost me a couple hundred Euros. It had been sitting unused in a garage for years. Apparently it was custom built for the original owner, which could be the reason why it's lacking the main Chesini decals. Pretty much everything seem to be original except for the pedals.

    I haven't been this excited about anything in a long time!

    The BB is new because the original downtube snapped. BB and fork serials are different, but need to check with Roberts if it's one of theirs.

    Either way, it's bloody lush, so I'm not too fussed!

    I don't know, I usually hate coloured tyres but it's just such an insane looking bike (a good thing) that it sort of works!

  • New drivetrain today, which should provide a bit more stiffness and has also improved the chainline. Jauntily angled brake is just for getting to and from the track, which I hopefully won't have to do any more - which is good, because shortly after I took this photo, I heard the unmistakeble hissing sound letting me know that, after less than 10 miles of road riding on this bike, I have a punctured rear tub to go with the Pit Stop-repaired front.

    Huge thanks to sumo for picking me up some Pit Stop and short notice on the way to the Nocturne.

  • I've put some summer tyres on and dropped the seatpost to compensate for the speedplay pedals then dropped the bars because fuck it.

    The Shimanowheels are for everyday transporting, but somehow i like the look.
    This is the stockwheels and needs to be restored and yes they will have gumwall

  • So, the Bianchi workhorse finally died after approx 70k miles (cracked at BB), poxy Italian workmanship! The WifeMobile frame was repossessed by the mate who lent it to me. Enter the Land Of The Giants......

    I'm not usually a huge Giant fan, but a pair of TCR frames for £400 removed all prejudices. These are almost entirely parts box and corpse of the Bianchi builds.

    And, yes, the wife is tiny!

  • Haven't posted much on here at all but need some serious advice. Currently too skint to even think about buying a fixed gear bike but got a pretty solid Raeligh Rapide road bike that is over 25 years old and although it works fine, it could still do with a revamp.

    I figured that I could do the revamp yet at the same time convert it to a fixie until I can actually afford a fixie and then re-convert it to a road bike. Now, to the advice. I know the basics of fixing a bike but I wouldn't have a clue as to where to start a conversion. Any pointers for a complete noob?

  • The first decision is fixed or single speed. If you want to do a really cheap conversion to SS, then just take off all the derailleurs and shifters, shorten the chain a bit and you're ready. If you want to go fixed you will probably have to get a new rear wheel, chain and chainrings/crank. Sheldon is your friend...

  • The idea of a completely new back wheel is not too much of an issue as I would change them anyway given how battered the wheels I have at the moment are. Basically I am more than open to strip the whole thing down and literally replace every single component. I am just completely clueless when it comes to what to look in bike parts :(
