Take all the stops and guides off with an angle grinder, magic gear to H+Son Formation face at the back and a Spok in front, risers, Dirty Harry on the wrong side of the stem to a cheap Tektro caliper, make sure you put the saddle much too high and then tilt the nose way down in a vain attempt to compensate. Job done.

Bought the alloy Athena groupset planning for it to go on the Mercian before I realised I'd be compelled to buy a yellow bike. So the full black and yellow is already off limits. And I'll definitely be going with clinchers so that im not in mortal fear of punctures.

I reckon you could source my build list for a pretty affordable figure, with some precision eBaying.

For reference, my Gatorskin tub's have now got 1,061 miles of 100% London commuting on- both tyres p_nct_r_d in the first week, both "fixed" with PitStop without taking them out of the frame, and both totally reliable since then.

Unless I spot a carbon campagnolo 10 or 11s groupset for a price that I'd be able to exchange the Athena groupset for in the next week or two it'll be staying Athena, which i think will still work with a silver stem/seatpost combo and black contact points.

Yes. Ignore the rear, it doesn't matter and anyway the back of the frame isn't going to flex enough to make it rub, but when the fork flexes and the front tyre hits the down tube, it stops you like a stick through the spokes.

At the moment I'm using a Tetley Ale Shim. I know there are Nitto shims, but is there any middle ground? Does Asahi beer come in cans?

A&p, I wouldn't consider in wrong tbh. They have nice, classic, almost tracky shape.

You mean 25.4 bars in a 26.0 stem? I did it all the time.
