I was thinking of having a go at this for a project, I have no idea how much of a nightmare it would be but it was my Dads old bike, who I lost to cancer in 2003, so thought would be nice to do a classic stripped back restoration of it as a bit of a tribute for him....
Any ideas or shed any light as to model etc or problems I will encounter along the way would be a help, as it is 27" wheels will it have enough clearence for 700c's to go on ??? and will the dropouts be long enough or will I have to go for one of the eccentric hubs ???

You can have 700s on there but it'll look silly (huge clearances), and be a pain for brakes. Decent 27" rims not hard to find online.

are you thinking of converting it or restoring it?
if its restoring surely its simply a case of stripping cleaning and rebuilding it. regreasing everything and rechroming or replacing damaged or broken components, no?
if your converting it to a fixed wheel bicycle which this bicycle never was before then thats a different matter and it doesnt sound like its going to be resembling anything that it might ever have been. i think its important to decide really what you want the bike to be
hip fixed wannabee or sturdy classic with new life breathed into it like what your dad used to ride, with the occasional creek but sound and ready to take you anywhere. sorry if i am missing something

Fancied making use of the frame but going fixed, but keeping 'old skool' still drops etc but freshening it up losing clutter, rack mudguards etc and keeping it chrome for the new parts.... guess thats the idea but maybe i'm wrong dunno !!

27" is bigger than 700c, that should be self-explanatory enough.

In fact, wheel sizes are possibly the least self-explanatory part of bicycles. 700c is in fact 622 mm, yet it is sometimes described as 28". 27" is 630 mm, I think.

Essexmirage, your Dads old bike looks like an 1970/72 Peugeot PA 10E which is a couple of models down from the PX10 still a lovely classic bike and worth keeping original.
I have just bought a 1969 peugeot px10 and will be fully restoring it. Watch this space for pics and updates and any problems i had along the way.

About time I got my nag up :D
Always wanted a fixie since visiting the velo at Newport a few times, sadly student finances have meant that it has taken about a year to come to fruition. I got the bike minus wheels and saddle off the bay and set about cleaning it up a bit. Its a 1982/83 Coventry Eagle, its a Flite model so not Renolds but its nice steel. Thought it deserved a proper vintage Brooks too and I love it so far. The headbage isn't orginal, picked that up off the bay too although I think that it goes.

going to try and get this in some sort of order not single speed though,seat post is stuck in,brakes are seized will need drilling out ,gears smashed,this will be fun.

why not just return it to its old glory and make a beautiful touring bike, then errr...go touring. yes!

Would appear a restoration will be the way to go then, have checked out PA 10E's on google but they dont seem to have the cutout details around the headtube ? and the pump mounts seem to be on the top tube not the down tube as per this one ?? so still bit confused. . . . . . . . . . . . . but any way looks like i'm gonna be touring then ! just need to strip and clean it up see whats gotta be replaced !! (loads i know lol)

Hi everyone. Managed to crack the seat tube of my everyday stealth bike so spent this morning transfering bits and pieces from that to this Guerciotti frame that I had saved for just such an occasion. Quite pleased with how it's turned out. Off to Greenwich now for its inaugural ride.

I have the exact same peugeot model, except mine was bronzy colour instead of green, but everything else is the same.
TBH, I basically ripped everything off. The Mafac Brakes are actually quite good, and I have a set of originaly mafac levers that I might use if I can get the crap off of them.
The Simplex gear levers (if you wanna make it geared) will look rather nice after a clean up and work with new gear changing systems.
The bottom bracket is British (I am 90% sure) so you won't have any problems there either.
