  • If the clearance is smaller than the size of road debris which will stick to the tyre, you get the brake applied suddenly and unexpectedly under certain conditions. Not the same problem as tight tyre/downtube clearance, because there is no feedback loop with crown clearance - the wheel either stops (quite unlikey), the debris gets ejected, or the weakest element of tyre/crown/debris gets deformed.

  • all I get is a build up of road muck inside the steerer tube as the clearance at the back of the fork crown is marginally bigger than the front

  • i could do with a flint catcher

  • Collected this frame today.

Going to stick modern cheap bits on it to make a bad weather road bike / light tourer jobby

  • Is that a 650c front or a deceptive camera angle?

  • Deceptive angle - taken from close to the bike with the radiator shoving the rear wheel towards the lens

  • I see. It's a really nice frame, I've seen bikes in that Condor yellow before and I think it looks great.

  • Cheers! Looking forward to getting it built

  • Just started a thread for this, which I collected this afternoon

  • Holy fuck

  • ^^WIn!

  • Fixed tt bike (which is also my track bike). Need to put on bar tape and move saddle up and forward for tt. The brief trial this afternoon was the first time I have got into a 'proper' tt position. It felt lethal.

  • ^Double win, looks real mean

  • Yeah i do like the rattyness. better shot. Dont mind the saddle angle

I agree - don't paint it!!! What did you do to the finish?

    Part list?

  • From this....

(it looks like some on tried to repaint the lugs with nail polish??!)

    to this......

  • But im having two problems. First one very minor. How do i stop my benotto tape from moving? I keel retaping it and have gone over the top with a lighter but everytime i sprint with my hands in the 'on the hoods' position i get this:

Also when cranking down hard I am hearing a little clicking sound every time my left leg pushes down. Did not notice it the first day that i rode the Woodrup but today and yesterday it has been there.
It is not loud but on a track bike (no cables etc to be rattling) that has just been built up

Sounds to me (not an expert by any means) that there may be a crack in the frame but have inspected (especially around the bb lugs) and no signs at all, and there are no dents or any kind of twisting so doesnt seem to have been seriously crashed in a previous life.

I am 99.9 percent sure this is a little scratch from locking up and not a crack:

Have tightened up saddle, seatpost, chainring bolts, pedals, headset seems spot on, BB is brand new so not sure what else it could be.

    Can anyone help please?

  • I suppose it could be spokes moving a little against each other when pressure is applied to one side of the bike?

a couple more nice details for now.

    (no sign of cracks here.)

Really liking this super perace saddle bought from Pistoffski. Very well used so makes the bike less of a thief magnet!.

  • *PERACHE 'Super-Professionelle' Saddle

  • The clicking might be that there's grit or whatever in the bearings of the BB. Or that there is a bit of corrosion on the bearings themselves. That's if it's standard unsealed bearings...

  • re- tape
start from the bottom to the tops, and this should prevent it from travelling
having said that, I am not sure of the glue quality as this should not happen anyway I think...?

Yes could be, i will regrease and inspect but doubt it because it sounds a little tinny and metallic and only occurs when cranking down hard, not when spinning on flat.

I suppose could be wheel moving a little bit in the dropout?
or more likely is some kind of movement in the stem. As you can see it is very old and the sound is almost identical to the clicking/pinging sound when im tightening the top bolt and it is turning then stopping. Have regreased, taken out and re applied so we shall see.

Dude there is no glue at all or sticky side to benotto tape. So not a big suprise it is moving i guess!
Will try taping from bot to top although someone suggested that going from top to bottom is the only way with this tape in bar tape porn thread!

  • And before anyone states the obvious I am wrapping the tape as tight as I can!

  • Tape the bars with insulating tape (sticky side outwards) first. Then put the benotto tape on top.
