  • Cheers, we're big eames fans

    (Current DIY projects thread...?)

  • ^Jelly.

  • New bars to make tarck bike a track bike. Probably need new pedals at some point don't like the idea of having to take them off my road bike every week
    And new cranks
    And new wheels...

  • Whenever furniture chat comes out it just goes straight over my head, looks nice though!

  • Glass tables are always anti. I approve the eames though.

  • ^ we came to that conclusion too and swapped my homemade glass number for a super elliptical (Arne Jacobsen et al)

  • Corsair Marque? Always liked the look of those.

    This^

Doesnt it pivot around the BB shell. Interesting design. Remeber having to bite my fingers a few times not to buy one myself. It was on clearance somewhere for quite some time.

Hope it rides as nice as it looks.

  • Yeah the pivot is interesting. The linkage pivots around the bb shell, which drives the rear triangle. Chainline is routed over an idler on the main pivot. A lot of bearings to replace when they wear, lucky me.

Got this one second hand while looking for a frame to take to the alps. Like I said, I'm only really used to the single pivot Turner, so we'll see how this compares. I'm building it up next week so if anyone's interested I'll stick some photos up.

  • I want a lower stem position on my Canyon Ultimate Al (as mentioned in the road bike recommendations thread). The proprietary headset has excess stack height.

(Not my bike, but set up is the same save that I have a 73 degree stem).

One idea is to replace this with a shallow bearing cap that would allow me to 'slam dat stem'.

There are two elements of complexity. Firstly, the headset is a proprietary Acros 'ai-70 fiber' model, that applies upward pressure to the stem to keep the headset tight. Due to this headset feature there is no steerer bung. Secondly, the carbon steerer is 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 diameter.

If I bought a 1-1/4 inch bearing cap and carbon steerer bung compatible with 1-1/4 Inch steerer, could I fit these in place of the current headset? If so, can anyone recommend where to buy?

Or is this all just inviting trouble?

  • Greater than 73 degree? Compatible with 1-1/4 Inch steerer?

  • How about deeper drops (don't know if they still do 158mm ergo's but 3T certainly used to).

that seems to be what Denis Menchov has done

    FSA make 1 1/4 stem.

    This.

3T Rotundo put your levers a lots lower than usual giving you a similar position you would get on a -17 stem.

Alternately if you like your compact, 3T is releasing the [URL="

"]Tornova [/URL]for those who aren't keen on the Rotundo shape.

  • Canyon seem to have a top bearing cap for sale. Send them an email.

    from this:

    to this:

  • Sumo - Denis Menchov's is an aeroad with 1 1/8 steerer, so the bearing cap is easy to find (from MDCC_tester or Slam Dat Stem, though I doubt either supply Katusha).

Psee - do you have any evidence that is supplied from Canyon or third party? Can you share link from where the image is from?

  • I have emailed Canyon customer services to see what they can do. I'm sure there is pertinent information here, but even with Google translate the detail eludes me:

  • Rear mech hanger said bye bye to the frame today.
Glad I carry everything you could need to fix a bike with me.
SS'd it home, not fun but got home just fine.
Carry tools and parts people. One day you'll be thankful.

    Edit:
Full multi tool - Chain breaker, spoke key, allen keys. Had to split and rejoin the chain, then true the rear wheel where the mech hit the spokes.
Wipperman quick-links so you can join a broken chain again.

I always carry 2 inner tubes too, and then a box with pre-cut puncture repair strips, rubber cement, and quick-links in it.
Last thing you want is too puncture twice in the cold and not have a second tube, thus have to fix an innertube in the cold.

  • ^ list the tools?

  • looks like job for alien II solely

  • Chain tool. Allen key.

  • ^ list the tools?

a chain tool and allen keys?

    #beatentoit

  • Multitool with allen keys and chain tool.

    Maybe a hammer.
