  • I already have the hooks ready - but had not seen the beading used before, seems like a nice solution to keep walls free from dirty tyre marks (which is something I was worried about with this particular system).

Could you tell me what your wall height is and what the approximate 'height' you used for one overlapped bike is?

  • I'm a bit worried about using this system with Speedplays though...

  • ^ you could hook/loop around the crank arm instead?

  • I think it will be OK if I can get it to grab the pedal spindle, rather than the pedal itself

  • I think we have 2.45m ceilings (maybe a touch higher). Started from the skirting for the first tyre rail then worked up for the three hooks. Be careful of the top one as I had an issue with my seat hitting the ceiling when i did my first drill.

Those hooks are is set in to a 2 layer plasterboard wall so not a structural. A 6-10kg bike wouldn't cause any issues. I wouldn't use it for a dutch bike (though the picture on the box implies its ok)

  • All of those are hanging on spd sl's. Im sure speedplays are fine as it just stops it slipping. So as long as the pedal body isnt so loose it will slip off the spindle it will hold the weight of the bike. I think we put much more force through them in a climbing situation.

  • Mine will go into a masonry wall - and will be my track bike (probably sub 6.5kg Giant Omnium - not weighed it) and S-Works (around 7kg) so weight is a non issue. Heavier bikes will go underneath hopefully. Really hoping to reduce the 5-deep bike stack!

Thanks for the advice by the way - looking forward to drilling some holes this weekend :)

Did you drill the hooks first, then measure for the beading?

  • The IALP has landed - cheers Crane:

apologies for really anti curtains and cushions. Don't have access to tools or parts bin here so will sit like that for a while though...

  • Yes as its a bit of a trigonometry puzzle to figure out the drop prior to mounting the bead. I enlisted my other half to hold the hooks and mark the tyres whilst i held the bikes up.

Most important to get the spacing visually right / equal between 3 bikes. All ours are 172.5 cranks.

  • track bike has 172.5?!

You've done a pretty bang-up job there - looks perfect to my designer-grid-vision eyes

    holy shit! Permanent downhill

  • ^ it would pose interesting problems for your bike storage solutions as well I would think.

  • very true. I think it would be an impenetrable maze for a bike fitter too... I hope you're really into yoga :D

Cheers. Yes 172.5s on the mercian. Changed up from 167.5s as a test and prefer it as that bike is mostly ridden on roads. Has a high bb shell so makes no difference in terms of pedal strike.

  • ^^ I'm a 6'3/4" T Rex so it's getting close to what I need...

  • I am looking forward to the argos. I nearly bought it myself but I'm almost certain my next build must be a fixed/ss or some kind.

  • Promenades have appeared, thanks to Chokolateboywonder.
Brooks will prob be replaced with a ratty concor before too long.
The anti is strong with this one.

Unsure about grips or wrapping the bars.

OK so not identical bars or geometry! but you get the idea..

(I prefer how the grips feel)

  • ^^I have a ratty white(ish) Laser (same shape as Concor) that could work if you're going for ratty white contact points.

  • Tommmmmmmmmm pm'd...
As for grips/tape, Liz has tape with gel pads on both her other bikes so imagine this will probably have the same, although soyos might look nice depending on where the levers end up.

  • I recently moved my sofa to a worse place and put my 3rensho where it used to be, I have my priorities right.

Also it's the first thing you see when you walk in and I'm hoping it will impress girls???

    Damn straight it will

  • edmundro, please try and rotate the bars for the wicked lo pro bull horn look.

  • Just for one photo at least...

  • i'm building this steel frame/fork for a friend

it will have a wheelset with this

    ...with this rims (h+son tb14)

the crankset is a BLB Super Pista
    The stem will be a dura-ace 110mm and the heaset is a dura-ace 1'
A new flite saddle and a ritchey seatpost.

it will probably look something like this

the first idea was to make a singlespeed but after i did the frame my friend went to the Portuguese velodrome with me and decided the he wanted the bike fixed brakeless. So the frame as brake holes but i think they will never see brakes.

  • Lucky friend!
