    HTFU,

or get a smaller chainring up front

  • Herp a derp. What size is good for a town do-it-all bike then?

  • I have a spare 53t
Run 53-53 up front to save from cross chaining and so you can always be in a HTFU gear.

  • ha!

  • 2 teeth less on the front might just make the difference..

  • I was thinking eithe 50t or 48t.

  • rings are quite cheap no? get both, try both, profit?

  • I poor.

  • Well you can my 53t fo peanuts!

  • What size is good for a town do-it-all bike then?

Leave the chainset alone and get a CS-6600 16-27 cassette, 53/16 is plenty of top gear for riding around town.

  • rings are quite cheap no?

No. £29 for the cheapest one I'd give house room.

  • And going from 53 to 48 is only 10%, so if you're crossing over to the 21 sprocket, changing the ring is only going to move you up 1 cog to the 19.

    48/19 is actually 0.1% higher than 53/21

  • George, you could sell it and build a fixed gear!

    £50?

No. £29 for the cheapest one I'd give house room.

I wouldn't suggest buying new. A tenner is the most i'd pay on here for a standard chainring.

You have assumed what degree of crossing he's experiencing.

  • Could you not trim the front mech to stop this? Or am I misunderstanding the problem... tester?

  • Full french would be fun, full DA too for a change, full Mavic a pain to complete.

Very Nice frame; Full is so 2010 Tychom!

I've assumed lots of things as he couldn't be arsed to give details in his enquiry

You're misunderstanding; the problem isn't chain rub on the FD cage, which as you say can be dialled out, but poor chainline causing accelerated drivetrain wear.

Good luck finding a 48t/130pcd ring that anybody is trying to get rid of.

  • I have a 48t 130bcd TA ring spare.

    :)

  • I've fitted a 42t for volcano riding (seriously).

  • I have a 48t 130bcd TA ring spare.

    :)

    me too, who wants?

  • I've been finding myself crosschaining much more than I want to. Currently I am running 53-39 up front. What would you 'orrible lot recommend I try to stop it? Chainring-wise I mean.

Change down to the little ring?

  • Lol

  • thanks. if budget allows it, get a set of gilles berthoud stainless mudguards and give them to bob jackson to paint them matching black, maybe with a white panel too.

Black longboards; safer, cheaper, lighter if you can find some Berthoud stays and diy 'em.
