  • It was surprisingly blatant actually - those in the know could buy them from under the counter at the LBS!

  • That looks completely mental. I love it. It needs one of these though.

  • Ha I've got a silver knock off one of those kicking about...

I've just fitted some big knobbly tyres and a crud catcher... off to find some mud!

  • ^ I've got a proper one in black, 100mm.

Who on earth uses a 100mm downhill stem :-)

Makes a good paper weight; I think it weighs over 300 grams

  • Might have that off you for my P3 if you don't want it... Coverting it from a 4x/jump bike to a DH/Freeride/tough trail bike and it's a bit short...

  • I'll be getting rid of a few bits in the new year, so can let you know in about 2 weeks.

  • ^^^I've always hated the stem... funnily enough I had my eyes on the Azonic CNC stem at the time I built it, then I got back into road racing and only used that bike for the laughs so it stayed as is.... a bit mental having the XCPro/WTB microdrive chainset on a DH bike but there you go!

  • I particularly like the handlebars with the centre brace, as they remind me of my old burner BMX.

  • They're Amoeba JY-193 - I just wanted something bomb-proof and my mate had them on his Santa Cruz Chameleon and I liked the BMX style!

  • it's perfect for those looking for high performance handlebars for compettive downhill cycling. Rust-resistant.
Well that's good to know :-)

  • I tend to take rust resistance for granted with Aluminium, but it's comforting nonetheless...
I saw someone break a pair of bars at a superG at the Malverns in '94 which made me really nervous about bars - before I got the Amoeba's I had a pair of Sakae Stainless steel bars on the basis that steel won't fatigue....

  • Firstly, prepare yourself for an obsessive 2 year build.. nostalgia WILL take over. See..

Secondly, I've got a set of MX6's back in Ireland if you fancy them. I could pick them up at Christmas when I'm home. 20mm axle tho, so depends on how much you are willing to commit to this as a proper project.

Go on.. do that frame justice.

  • Wharry, A M A Z I N G.

  • ^^ Wicked
Loved your "Zaskar" build too! I remember when you dropped that in the CP's - It was the same weekend I finished my Lo-Pro - totally eclipsed by your build, and rightly so!
re: doing a "proper" job of the AC, I'm going to box it up early january and put it in storage whilst I work on a new house so now is a bad time....
I agree it's calling out for a rad build, Deore hubs on M231s and a 42T chainring are hardly appropriate! but it'll have to wait until at least the summer - Stratos forks would be a good start though - when I finally get round to it!!!

  • Next level bike Wharry....... Added a Azonic rip off stem to my CX town bike......i would say its finished .......for now........

  • So today, I learnt some lessons...

    1. A trail can change alot in a year, especially when it has been a wet year. (What was last year nice fire road with the odd rock, is now a stone and pebble basined stream)

    2. Riding down said trail, in top gear and thinking I am Steve Peat is not a great idea.

    3. Although I still retain some Dh skills from my youth, I am no Steve Peat.

    4 Rocks are hard.

    1. So are my teeth (luckily)

    2. Mountain biking is still as much fun as it always was, and I'll be doing alot more of it.

    3. Gore tex boots are worth their wait in gold.

    4. Dropping your saddle is still a good idea before setting off downhill...

and finally... 9. I used to wear elbow and knee protection for a good reason, time to get some more.

A rock, with some blood that came out of my face....

    Fun machine...

  • ^hard bastard! Looks like muy fun.

    picz plz

  • Wald basket (thanks Aches&Pains) and rubber grips for the Raleigh...

fruit and veg borrowed from neighbours for the picture. I only do pizza and vitamin G

    :)

  • picz plz

    Only one I can find...

Needs, longer travel forks that have gone on the Kinesis, matching 26" wheelset (D521s on XT discs that came on the bike with the forks) new stem, front brake replacing, new tyres....

    This is excellent

    Really Really good.

This is my kind of page

cool, I was trying to do something similar, put some pikes on my suburban but it felt weird when they were wound right out, only feels right at 100mm. Probably because the head angle is quite steep. Need a new frame. Meh

  • I dropped off my ESB to Super Ted earlier this week. He replaced my stays with wider ones to allow for up to 2.25" tyre clearance. I'll be ordering something fat after Christmas – maybe Halo Twin Rail 2.2 or Conti Race King 2.2 for full on winter mode. Anyway, yesterday I picked it up from Armourtex and built it straight up.

To give you an idea of clearance, those are 45c tyres on there right now and the wheel is slammed in the dropout. :)

(Cheers to Apollo for lending me his finest hairspray.)
