  • Sounds good, I'm building this on a budget though, so what ever's cheapest and works will go on it.
I mean as the spacing is 130, i will probably use a road hub, and because im using a road hub, I can use a road cassette, and therefore a short cage mech.

  • bought this

    Is this becoming Lfgssmtb?

    Not that I object.

You can use MTB cassettes on road hubs and vice versa. My Alivio RD definitely works on the 9-speed 11-32 cassette, which definitely works on a 105 or any other cheap Shimano road freehub, so you could have your cranks, chainring, bash guard, BB, cassette and RD all sorted for under £50 by shopping in my parts bin.

  • Project for the GF... Aim is for a fast but comfortable ride.

    and a pair of these...

With some brake levers that look like this...

    B17 Lady...

And was thinking about reusing this tape I had on the Argos...

...but thinking black grips to match the Brooks may be best option...

Picked up the bike for what I think is a bargain £215, and we cycle past Woodrup all the time so nice to have a piece of local frame building history.

Just finished sorting it out, new bars, cables and levers... (She'll have to wait till xmas for the Brooks) Decided against the blue white tape, used a layer of the blue stuff that came with it with some soft touch over the top to give a nice comfortable grip...

Took it for a ride along the road and fell in love with it, my Hetchins is getting a similar set up as soon as I come across another pair of nice bars.

Think I may have to swap out the stem for one a little shorter, going to see how she looks on it. Also need a pair of double sided Sylvans or a similar alternative...

  • New shorter stem (reach) made it close to perfection off-piste

  • on my old cannondale 1x8 I made a dog fang by just unscrewing/cutting the clamp off the front mech, might have a photo somewhere

  • what's a dog fang?

  • it's a £10 piece of plastic, like a bolt-on mech clamp with a bit that pokes out and stops the chain coming off on the frame side

here's how my shops smasher is looking right now. I don't think I will ever get used to these tyres. Probably should be in Readers' wives Anti tbh

  • what's a dog fang?

  • Aaah, I see. Good idea.

Them there green tyres sure are quite a statement.

you obviously haven't been following the Mielec thread :)

  • hehe, gross

  • gangsta is here! originally wanted to strip the frame but got lazy and took some hammerite to it. things to still be done: play around with position (might need a longer stem) and strip the frame. absolutely fucking love it though, can chuck it around all day long and not feel bad about it in the slightest. il get some daylight shots at the weekend.

  • jeeez

  • Not the gangsta, the pink stuff.

  • Joe. Plz put decals on it

    can i see a picture?

and dig your bash around bike.

evolution of the bike in front of our eyes.

i would but brooklyn are notoriously shitty with customer service. think dave from the 5th floor had a mate who did his, might pm him.

cheers, it's awesome fun. Had a look earlier and must have deleted it! but it basically looked like a metal dog fang

like this without the guide, just turned the lump that the mech was mounted to, to align with the chain

  • just wanted to see how neat you got it. dog fang are plastic so cause less noise if they rub??

  • Your chain catcher shouldn't rub on the chain unless the chain is already on its way off

Thought you were getting a brake?

  • fuck that! was thinking about it and realised i ran my bridgestone brakeless last winter with 23's on, il definitely be alright with these 32's.

  • And how did you manage to spray it in these arctic conditions
