I actually really like the Colnago.
Surprised no one's mentioned the seatpost height yet though. -
• #70179
Don't bother..
Primer straight to paint? Sounds dumb
-
• #70180
tall, set far forward and jauntly?

NOS 28h Open Pros finally sourced, my new Cinelli could well be built before xmas...
That's too soon, I'm gonna wanna ride it straight away...
Just a Ti Regal and some black leather Cinelli bartape left on the shopping list...

I am really liking this. I guess im a sucker for rat beaters, its nice to see more of them on the roads. A mish-mash of parts and components. Looking ratty, but working well. keep the paint as it is. It looks great as it is IMHO.

Usually I'd agree about the paint, but I don't think it's the original scheme anyway (no decals / badge), and I reeeeeeally want one of these:

nice find! that's a pretty big dent, is it OK otherwise?
-
• #70189
It is a big dent. Luckily there is no cracking in the surface. Everything else is in perfectly good order
-
• #70190
which forks will you use?
-
• #70191
dunno yet. the headtube is for 1-1/8 steerer, but I might go for this solution: http://chrisking.com/headsets/hds_devo
Also considering an alpina or another straight carbon fork

• #70192
I like the steel ones - reminds me of a cannondale with them on.

Nag frame and group is wicked.
But that stem does not work on that frame one bit.
And the thompson seatpost is out of place.
Confused HHSBerCan't help but agree with this. It's almost a great build but the bits that aren't quite right are the most obvious.
-
• #70195
What would you suggest for it? Carbon campag seat post?
No idea what stem would be more appropriate.**Not due to taste, just due to lack of knowledge re: modern parts
-
• #70196
I really like the nago, but I second others points that there are just a couple of details to switch it over to porn (so forgive the criticism)..
- stem (maybe just strip it if it works in everyother way)
- seatpost
- bar wrapping!

Primer straight to paint? Sounds dumb
No, I meant don't bother trying to strip paint without a paint stripper.
-
• #70198
Maddy that Colnago looks awesome, the wheels make the finishing kit work IMO. Get some speedplays so you can get rid of that Shimano muck :)

I am trying so hard to convince myself my good bike doesnt exist until March, the fact that it's currently living in my bedroom doesn't help much. Nice bit of furniture though :)

barely a current project:
I got rid of my Mercian and my Mercier to finance something a bit too ambitious and costly so this is on hold now, or maybe will not happen... I miss the Mercian for the winter, its mudgards, mudflaps, etc, and I needed something similar.
I was lucky enough to find for very cheap an old Dawes budget tourer that had been left in a shed for decades. Although there was not too much rust luckely enough, the grease was so old and sticky that the headset and BB were almost completely stuck. Cleaning that old sticky grease was a nightmare. A full service (BB, headset, hubs, brakes...) was necessary, the rubber of the tyres was so dry and crackely that the rear one could not be inflated without poping out of the rim. I had an old specialized all condition in my shed that was good enough for the job and the front super dry tyre seems to behave OK so far. I installed one of my old brooks on it, old stainless steel mudgards I had, and a rear rusted chrome rack that was rottin in my shed, new bar tape (coton, super cheap from decathlon), I made a mudflap from a bit of cow hide I had, and I am ready for winter. I have been riding it for a couple of weeks now, only thing is that I need a longer seatpost, the bike is 1 cm too short for me really... Apart from that, it rides surprisingly well for a budget bike... All componments are low end weinman (single pivot calipers), low end stronglight chainset, low end maillard hubs that were commun on supermarket bikes in france in the late 70s / early 80s... But I suppose the bike is from a time where even low end stuff had decent acceptable quality. I regret my mercian, but for a fraction of the price, the cheapo Dawes is a fantastic soldier! I am already very attached to it!
didn't say you had to use campag pedals. Just keep it Euro!
