  • a bit heavy is it?

Pretty typical for a steel track frame with an ISP (not that there's anything typical about that, but I'm sure you see the point)

    yeap! ;-)

  • we dont see many steel frames with integrated seat posts here do we

  • .

I am six foot tall and my bikes don't look anything like that

  • Woke up this morning with a thumping head and this rat-mobile in the living room. Hazy memory's of me rummaging through my parts bin and building it in a drunken stupor slowly returned. I had ear-marked this frame for a fixed daily beater/pub. Two brakes, large-ish ratio 50t/16t. My inebriated self had other plans.

Unfortunately I used a few bits I was saving for other builds. Going to swap the Stronglight chainset for a Super Maxy..... also the rear mech and a few other bits.....i know its a shit heap, but its my current (drunken) project.

  • I hope you didn't do the drillium yourself while you were pissed

He might just be riding a smaller frame with more seatpost and more drop to the bars than you. He's 6' - 6'1", I can corroborate. :)

  • I got this rather nice but incredibly gaudy decorated fsa kforce stem. The graphics are so shit its really distracting. Is it at all possible to strip stuff like thise or does the clearcoat being polished off or stripped damage the carbon wrap?

    hahahahaha brilliant

You need to go through several steps with this project.
    1: remove stem from bike
    2: weigh it
3: realise that there are any number of cheap 3d forged stems which are lighter and plenty stiff enough
4: buy one of them which has agreeable graphics
5: sell on the FSA to a gullible punter who thinks the words "FSA Carbon" provide added value

Tien Hsin is the go-to name for headset bearings, cheap OEM cranks and epic side-boob, but their FSA brand has yet to produce anything worth having.

You can sand it and re-clearcoat it. Or you can sell and buy something without graphics or atleast graphics you like. Option 1 is kinda fun but it takes abit of time and i doubt its gonna be cheaper.

yeah I didnt pay 170 quid for it thats for sure. But as heavy as it is I like the shape over something like the pro. ill just rattlecan until something else comes along

  • finally parcelforce did their job, result is this:

I will take proper pictures when it's sunny and I haven't lost all my SD cards.

what are the grips btw ?

  • hmm weren't they like soyos?

  • it's cloth tape

  • new build, almost finished. Any thoughts?

Not the best pictures, but then it is half one in the morning.

    in no particular order:-

-Viking Track frame, reynolds 531, 1960's I think, in Raw lacquer.
-Rear wheel: mavic MA40 27" rim on Campagnolo record pista hub, low flange, approx 1959, (apparently) with 17 tooth condor track cog
-Front Wheel: vintage Alesa 27" rim on vintage Campagnolo record strada (with qr skewer) high flange
    -No-Name sealed bottom bracket
    -Tange headset
    --BLB superpista chainset, 48 tooth
-Vintage steel drop bars and stem, probably british with blue condor track grips.
    Campagnolo record non-fluted seatpost, alloy.
-Miche track pedals with condor double cages and straps
    -Panaracer Pasela 27" 1 1/4 tyres.
    -Wright dark brown leather saddle

    Hadn't noticed that-Macbook photo's indeed. Camera's broken

  • [QUOTE=gridds;3234883]New project, old bike.

Really nice project, I like the double top tube. Re-post of a couple of my cargo bikes( I own a three wheeler and few others). 1939 franken trade bike and 40's-50's post bike. think some components on the post bike, like the chain-set and mudguards, were swapped for more modern parts..

  • ^Thanks luckyskull. Yeah I like the look of the double top tube, it's almost a bonus that that just happens to be the right size for me. I think I might have to put a more modern drive train on it at some stage, slightly higher gearing is needed.

Have you ever had any problems with loose headsets? What do you do about it? I'm going to have to make myself a spanner as I can't find an imperial one to tighten up the rusty bugger.

  • I guess the gearing was set up for heavy loads and to cope will hills. Just replace the freewheel with a 16t (i think it needs a two tooth remover, they can be a pain to remove due to time). Or as you say, replace chainset for a 52t, its square taper so that would be an easy job.
Not had a problem with the headsets, thus far. I inherited many tools from my father and landlord, both are into bikes and DIY. This is the headset on my trade bike. its a clamp system. Don't know the technical term.

  • I see, thanks for the info. My headset is loose in the frame at the top. I think it must have just worn loose over 30 years in service with a lump in the front rim making braking put repeated shaking into the headset. I'm sure I'll sort it though. It's fairly rusted, just have to get maybe a heat gun and a well fitting spanner for some leverage to shift it.
These bikes are solid. Heavy but nice.

  • bored sunday afternoon...decided to build up the brooklyn with stuff i've got around (which doesn't include foot retention unfortunately)
