  • Affordable sealed BBs, Tifosi, Veloce or Centaur really.

  • pub lopro? you mean my other raleigh?

nowt has changed since last post in thread really? apart from I received some LA84's which are lovely but alas I dont have a stem that'll fit them!! (actually i do but i gave them to a mate not realising my other stems would be of no use.... come on karma show me some love!

once i get a front wheel sorted it is buildable although not in the preferred guise.

Nah the black pub bike one is slightly sloping... Maybe it should be,sho us your slightly sloping pub bikes...

  • A friend has offered me this Razesa frame at a reasonable price and i have thrown on my spare pieces to give it a few days ride test. liking it so far and think i'll do it!

What are the bars and the saddle?

  • also, what bullhorns are them Mark?

ah boredom beat me to it./

  • bars are nitto 001 or 002 i cant remeber.. nitto summink.. saddle is san marco magma.. actually they are my mates. i could take it with nitto tech stem in black with syntace stratos bars for an extra fiddy euro but i have no need for extra cockpits...

  • Nah the black pub bike one is slightly sloping... Maybe it should be,sho us your slightly sloping pub bikes...

HA! I totally did not notice. thanks, makes me like it more!

  • How could you miss it!?

will he sell you his nitto bars for my orloprobro?

  • bars are mine... just seatpost and saddle is his... and technically the frame still.

  • ah right no worries.

F&F are real nice, definitely would especially if you're getting a deal.

  • or would you like the stratos? which are his....

  • nah after the shallower drop of the nittos.

  • its reasonable.. about 160quid... i think thats with the saddle and post. need to clarify. extra some for this front end

  • they are still pretty shallow... i just checked them together and it is only marginally different although you do know your onions.

  • Damn, i like your steel frame much better! Never been a fan of the Vigo and it's geo..

Had the opportunity to get this really cheap (shop I work is Cinelli dealer). Build it up quickly with parts of my steel trackframe and some stuff I/the shop had laying around. Only thing I need to do is search a Thomson stem, and some compact drops. Then sort out the spacing.

  • New project on the go, inspired by the trend around me for trick/city bruiser frames, but on a budget...

  • My worry is that a 70s tourer, skinny frame tubes with less air cushioning it, will not be tough enough to handle this terrain.

Based on no experience and little knowledge I'm say it'll be fine!

The one thing I would say is check your clearances. On my '90s Dawes the rear can take a smooth 32mm bonit racelite, but not a larger Specialized Crossroads Armadillo Elite Tyre like this:

Also there isn't much room width-wise on the front.

    what's the plan? ss conversion?

  • that dropping seat post is so cool.

Heh, I've bought an 80s MTB (see two pages back, although it's very similar to tommmmmmmmmmmm's) although I'll still buy the touring frame (if it's available, waiting to hear from seller) to become my sensible road bike. The MTB can take 2.1 tyres apparently (so probably 1.9 with guards) which is significantly fatter. Plus it has double eyelets front and rear and low-rider bosses so it should handle my camping gear better than the 70s tourer, too.

Plan is: if it fits well, do some tests carrying a bunch of bricks around, then new Spa Cycles wheelset, tyres, MTB-specific drop bars, bar-end shifters, secondhand panniers and away we go. Should be able to do everything for £300-400, which means I won't have to sell my road bike to fund it.

  • Sounds good. I saw the mtb a few pages back, looks good. I really like the rear brake under the stays.

  • Got my self into a dilemma, Surly steamroller or Brother steel track? worth mentioning i'm trying to keep the number of my bikes down.

Surly is great for commuting and i guess more suitable for that sort of thing, but has a low bb and the long top tube still bugs me a bit, so then id probably end up getting a proper track bike, but also means i can get something quite nice that i wont really commute on.

Brother is a bit more of a best of both, maybe more practical because of it, decent clearance for commuter tyres, brake mounts, quill stem means i can swap bars in minutes and then nice geometry so i have something that looks nice to

What shall i do? id like to get it sorted soon as i can really.

  • Just get the track bike. You'll end up commuting on it anyway as you'll pick it up over teh roller on all but the worst of days.
I've commuted on my pomp 3 days in the last 2 months.
Did love my steamroller though. Served me faithfully.

  • dude just put bigger tyres on to increase bb height.

    Jesus, you're pickier than me.

  • id rather not go bigger than 28c.

Yes i'm very picky! its mostly because i'm trying to get the right bike sorted so i will stop faffing about with different bikes for commuting.

Yeah i love mine to, would be sad to see it go

also got a Pompino frame in the shed still, thinking i could build it as a spare bike with all things practical, 3 speed, mudguards, front rack, pannier rack ect, then the gf or friends could borrow it to.
