  • You'd think the companies who sell fixed hubs would actually tell you what their chainline is, keep on coming up against this in cycling, producers who don't list half the measurements of the components they're selling, like the fact that hardly anyone who produce handlebars even lists their dimensions apart from width, and thats hit and miss, and the ones that do are sometimes wrong and why the hell don't they show them in profile so we could check if they're the shape we're looking for?!!

    rant over

  • I like surprises

  • ^ rep'd

  • could you not just use a 115mm bb?

widest octalink i can seem to find is 113, someone wanna point me in the right direction if i'm being a mong? Bare in mind i really dont wanna spend much as i'm probably getting the arms on the cheap

  • Think my DA track BB is 107.5 so seems they operate on slightly narrower than regular sq, tapers?

  • or similar to JIS lengths

  • The 113 one i found is a deore one so they must make wideish ones for the MTB chainsets?

  • I might just forget about getting Goldtecs if they're proving a pain in the arse. I liked the idea of a bombproof wheelset but i'll stick with novatecs as so far they're done me no wrong

  • Had the opportunity to get this really cheap (shop I work is Cinelli dealer). Build it up quickly with parts of my steel trackframe and some stuff I/the shop had laying around. Only thing I need to do is search a Thomson stem, and some compact drops. Then sort out the spacing.

  • too small for you? or t-rex?

  • compact geo ain't it.

  • Bit of both, compact geo and also t-rex. But it rides way different from my steel frame, in a positive way. Saddle is to high right now, so need to sort that out tomorrow.

When I did mine, I didn't know that Goldtecs or Omniums were different from normal chainline, just got really really lucky.

Octalinks go up to super wide in MTB groups, I have a 121mm BB-ES51 in the parts bin. Can't remember exactly how it works, but bear in mind that there are two kinds of Octalink, with different spline lengths. Make sure you know exactly what you're doing if you're toying with the idea of using a BB that doesn't exactly belong with your cranks.

Chainline is not just about the hub, the sprocket comes into it too. They don't all place the tooth centreline at the same distance from the hub mounting face.

  • ^ Interesting, would such a mild misalignment cause much in the way of chainset chatter?

  • Due to pending move back to london from sunny Mallorca I need to get a more city suitable everyday/pub ride which wont be giving me heart palpitations when locked up and out of sight.

A friend has offered me this Razesa frame at a reasonable price and i have thrown on my spare pieces to give it a few days ride test. liking it so far and think i'll do it!

  • Looks alright, but where's the Raleigh?!

  • Actually, that looks ace for a pub bike.

    very nice.

new thread needed, Show Us Your Pub Lopro?

  • due to me not paying enough attention (just being to damn giddy when playing with it) and taking the word of seller i understood the front wheel to be a 650. I have come to realise it is 24" so am on a new hunt for suitable wheel and now having to sell the 650/700 rims i purchased in the first place!! douchebag error but there you go...

V1 and V2? I know i need a v1 with the shorter spline so i will bare that in mind

pub lopro? you mean my other raleigh?

nowt has changed since last post in thread really? apart from I received some LA84's which are lovely but alas I dont have a stem that'll fit them!! (actually i do but i gave them to a mate not realising my other stems would be of no use.... come on karma show me some love!

once i get a front wheel sorted it is buildable although not in the preferred guise.

  • Actually i will need to find a sealed BB suitable for SG75's for my return to LDN.. what r my options?

  • ^^ is there a thread for or pic of your stripped Dolan Pistoffski?
